Reading Coop Named 1 of Greater Boston’s 50 Fastest-Growing Mid-Sized Companies

READING, MA — On June 15th, SmartCEO announced their 2016 Future 50 Award winners at a black-tie-optional awards ceremony at the Park Plaza Hotel in Boston. The program recognizes Greater Boston’s 50 fastest-growing mid-sized companies that have experienced growth based on a combined three-year average of revenue and employee growth. These companies represent the future of the region’s economy and embody the entrepreneurial spirit critical for leadership and success. Reading Cooperative Bank was proud to be named among the recipients.

When Reading Cooperative Bank was founded as a cooperative in 1886, its mission was to provide mortgages to workingmen and women so they could buy homes. The banks assets recently surpassed the watershed $500 million mark, but it continues to maintain its strong commitment to its cooperative model.

Despite its traditional model, Reading Cooperative isn’t stuck in the past. “We have led the industry in our branch redesign concepts, recognizing that the consumers’ relationship with their bank is changing,” says CEO and President Julianne Thurlow. To break down internal silos, the bank has moved from its traditional headquarters into a new office space that features open desks and collaborative space. Reading Cooperative has also been an early adopter of mobile banking, mobile check deposit, chip cards and Apple Pay. “Changes like these have provided career-growth opportunities for Reading Cooperative’s staff,” says Thurlow, “giving tellers the chance to enhance their financial skills.”

The 2016 Future 50 winners collectively generate nearly $3.4 billion in annual revenue and employ more than 12,400 individuals. “Ask any CEO and they’ll tell you that leading a fast-growing company is one of the most challenging and fun things an entrepreneur can do. Whether they’re just starting out or rapidly trying to scale an established operation, this year’s Future 50 winners have executed their growth visions year after year, created job opportunities and made our region a better place to work and live,” says Jaime Nespor-Zawmon, President of SmartCEO. “There is nothing these amazing entrepreneurs can’t do if they put their minds to it. We honor them for their unwavering determination to rise above the rest and build the future of our region, our nation, and the world at large.”
