OBITUARY: William Chellis Byam, Jr., 82

BEDFORD, MA — William Chellis Byam died peacefully at his home in Bedford, MA on July 8, 2016.

He was born on March 13, 1934 in Somerville, MA. Bill attended the Wilmington Public Schools, Huntington Prep, and Boston University where he received a Bachelor of Science in Economics.

He served in the U. S. Army from 1953-1955 during the Korean Conflict. He worked as a computer engineer for local companies such as GTE and Honeywell.

Bill had a zest for life and he loved walking, swimming, jazz, sports, especially the Boston Celtics and track and field events, family gatherings, traveling, and reading about World War II and current events.

He was a long time member of First Church of Christ, Congregational in Bedford where he served on many boards and committees. He was an active member of Shhh Air and Save Our Heritage. Bill supported multiple environmental organizations. As an avid gardener he received many ribbons for his produce.

Bill will be remembered as a kind and caring humble man with a unique sense of humor who made this world a little brighter!

He is survived his wife Barbara, children Bonnie, and Scott and his wife Jane, 2 grandchildren, Emily and Julia, and several cousins.

A memorial service will be held at the First Church of Christ, Congregational, 25 The Great Rd., Bedford, at 11:00 A.M., on Sunday, July 24, 2016.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions can be made to American Cancer Society, Attn: Cancer Research, 30 Speen St., Framingham, MA 01701 or to Care Dimensions, 75 Sylvan St., Danvers, MA 01923.
