Wilmington POLICE LOG (Week of June 26, 2016)

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for the week of Sunday, June 26, 2016.

Sunday, June 26:

  • A Middlesex Avenue caller reported that a a man wearing a black t-shirt and backpack walked up his driveway.  When the resident asked him what he was doing, he left.  Police picked the man up near the cemetery. Police questioned the man.  Situation checked OK.  Police gave man a ride home. (12:38am)
  • An Uber driver reported her passenger fell asleep and would not wake up.  Passenger would eventually wake up and driver is taking him home to Billerica. (2:22am)
  • A red 1999 Toyota 4Runner struck and killed a deer near Michael’s Place on Lowell Street. (4:14am)
  • Fire Department responded to a brush fire on Towpath Drive. (2:27pm)
  • A hit and run between a white jeep and a black 1998 Honda Civic took place on Main Street. Caller took a photo of the other driver’s place before they left the scene. (3:24pm)
  • A caller reported his cell phone was taken from his Shawsheen Avenue lawn. Police spoke with a man that picked up the phone.  He discarded it by the Shawsheen school. Police returned the phone to the caller. (5:31pm)
  • A juvenile was reported missing from the Milestone Group Home on High Street. (9:00pm)
  • A caller reported his unlocked vehicle was entered, while parked at Cumberland Farm, and a prescription medication was taken. (11:19pm)

Monday, June 27:

  • A Fiorenza Drive caller reported his house was just egged.  Caller followed a a blue vehicle she believed may be responsible. Police spoke with the occupants of the blue vehicle and sent them on their way.  Police spoke with caller, who believe the eggs were purchased at Cumberland Farms due to packaging left at the scene.  Police visited the Cumberland Farms in Wilmington, but employee did not believe eggs were purchased from the location. (12:09am)
  • An employee from Silverio Construction on Woburn Street reported that, sometime last night, items were stolen from one of their trailers. (8:01am)
  • Animal Control Officer responded to a call that baby birds fell out of a tree on Woodland Road. (9:54am)
  • Police received multiple calls of a vehicle rollover in the parking lot at the Registry of Motor Vehicles on Middlesex Avenue. A vehicle struck at least four other vehicles and rolled over. Driver received a citation for driving on or over a traffic island. At least two vehicles were towed.  One individual was transported to a hospital by the Fire Department with unspecified injuries.   • A large truck took down power lines in front of the Winchester Family Medical Center on Salem Street. RMLD and Verizon were notified. A blue 2014 Nissan Sentra parked in the center’s parking lot suffered damage from the downed wires. (12:20pm)
  • A caller reported a bike was taken from Santander Bank on Main Street.  Bike was black with purple rims. Theft was possibly captured on security camera. Police will follow up with bank. (2:25pm)
  • Police quickly located the stolen bicycle being ridden by a child behind Nichols Funeral Home.  Police transported the child home.  Bike was returned to owner. (3:37pm)
  • Fire Department responded to a brush fire on Burlington Avenue. (4:29pm)
  • Police arrested Christopher A. Sherman (41, Chlemsford) for possession of a Class A drug.  Police were called after suspicious activity was reported in the Dunkin Donuts parking lot on Ballardvale Street. (6:45pm)
  • 2 juveniles were reported missing from Milestone Group Home on High Street. (11:41pm)

Tuesday, June 28:

  • Liam M. Taggart (18, Melrose) was arrested for OUI (drugs); marked lanes violation; and selling/possessing an electric stun gun. Taggart was pulled over on Nelson Way. (12:35am)
  • Police located a juvenile on Linda Road. Juvenile was missing from the Milestone Group Home.  Police returned him. (12:57am)
  • Police located three missing juveniles from Milestone Group Home at Wilmington High. Police returned them. (1:10am)
  • A red Dodge Caravan struck a pole on Glen Road. Airbags deployed. Driver refused medical attention. Vehicle was towed. Verizon was notified. (8:03m)
  • A vehicle struck a broken piece of the sidewalk in front of Rocco’s Restaurant and got a flat tire. Police moved the piece of curbing out of the roadway. (8:19am)
  • A gray 2014 Chevy Silverado and a green 2005 Kida Sorenta were involved in a crash on Horseshoe Lane. Both vehicles were towed. No injuries noted. (9:09am)
  • Police checked on a suspicious package in the high school parking lot. Package was a cooler with ice and refreshments. (10:26am)
  • A Shawsheen Avenue caller reported his car was egged last night. (11:51am)
  • A Kilby Street resident reported a past theft of a UPS package taken on April 5. (2:48pm)
  • A Shawsheen Avenue caller reported she lost a 4/5 diamond silver earring somewhere in town.  She’s unsure where she lost it. (3:50pm)
  • A Ford F450 struck a gas pump at Sonny’s Mobil on the Run on Lowell Street. No injuries or significant damage. (6:59pm)
  • A tree was reported down on Eames Street and Main Street. Police notified DPW. (7:25pm)

Wednesday, June 29:

  • Fire Department responded to The Corner Store on Shawsheen Avenue after the smell of gas was reported. (6:29am)
  • A black 2012 Jeep Wrangler and a black 2004 Toyota Camry were involved in a minor car accident at Burger King on Lowell Street. No injuries reported. (6:55am)
  • Police issued a citation to a driver for operating an unregistered vehicle. The blue 2008 Hyundai Entourage was pulled over on Main Street for having license plates that didn’t match the registered vehicle. Vehicle was towed. (8:05am)
  • Martin P. Finch (36, Medford) was issued a summons for dumping from a motor vehicle more than 7 cubic feet of trash. Finch was captured on surveillance video dumping debris from a UHaul truck into a dumpster belonging to Lubrizol Advanced Materials on Lowell Avenue. (8:58am)  Finch eventually returned to remove the debris from the dumpster. (12:23pm)
  • Police issued a parking ticket in the Market Basket parking lot for a handicap spot violation. (9:45am)
  • A Taft Road caller reported two white males wearing shorts and possibly carrying a baseball bat were soliciting in the area and possibly attempted to enter doorways. Police were unable to locate the two men in questions. (2:42pm)
  • Michael A. Guevarez (22, Lawrence) was issued on a summons for one count of larceny over $250 and two counts of larceny under $250.  Thefts emanated from Target in Wilmington. (6:46pm)
  • A McDonald’s employee called to report a customer was causing a disturbance in the drive-thru. When he was asked to leave, he flicked a penny at the caller’s chest before heading northbound on Main Street. Police were unable to locate them man. (10:40pm)

Thursday, June 30:

  • Franklin L. Louro (23, Brockton) was arrested for larceny over $250, breaking into a depository, and receiving stolen property valued at more than $250.  Ronice L. Apfonso (21, Brockton) was arrested for larceny over $250.  Police observed at UHaul truck next to the donation bin in the St. Dorothy’s parking lot and investigated.  With the assistance of Wilmington K9 Ridic, police caught one of the suspects in the woods  next to the church and the another suspect hiding inside the donation bin. (1:13am)
  • A neighbor of the Boutwell Street School reports safety concerns that children are being dropped off for the summer program with cars stopping in the middle of the road to let kids out.  Dispatch notified Safety Officer Moon and day shift officers. (9:04am)
  • A Cottage Street resident requested a “dead end” sign be placed on the Grove Avenue side of Cottage Street.  Caller is concerned because cars are going down the street trying to cut through to Main Street. (12:54pm)
  • Textron employees reported a bobcat near the company on Lowell Street. (4:50pm)
  • A Nichols Street resident reported an annoyingly persistent door-to-door salesman from company named “Green Line Innovations.” Police were unable to locate him. (5:02pm)
  • Lifeguard at Town Beach reported people were swimming in a prohibited area of the lake. He advised them to move and they refused. They then moved further out to the middle of the lake in inner tubes. The rule breakers left before police arrived. (5:34pm)
  • A lifeguard received threats when she refused access to Town Beach to a man, in his mid-20’s – who drove away in a black F150. Police responded and remained at location until calling party closed beach. (7:12pm)
  • A Glenview Road resident reported that while she was on vacation, her vehicle was entered.  A neighbor’s camera has evidence. (7:54pm)

Friday, July 1:

  • Rachel A. Brown (27, Lawrence) was issued a summons for the unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle and no inspection sticker. Brown’s white 1999 Ford Explorer was pulled over near Charles River Labs on Ballardvale Street. (9:12am)
  • Police received report of chucks of cement blocking the roadway on Concord Street. Debris was quickly removed. (9:13am)
  • A caller reported an individual was attempting to get rid of 3 mattresses in a dumpster at Deming Way. Police responded and advised the individual how to property dispose of mattresses. (9:27am)
  • A white 2009 Nissan Maxima struck a parked vehicle in the back parking lot of the Registry of Motor Vehicles on Middlesex Avenue. No injuries noted. (10:47am)
  • A caller reported a turtle was in the roadway of Adams Street, causing a traffic hazard. Police moved the turtle off the road and into the woods. (10:54am)
  • A road rage incident occurred after two vehicles attempted to go over the Butters Row Bridge, in opposite directions, at the same time. (12:49pm)
  • Police notified of a tree branch hanging over Hillside Way, causing a hazard. Police closed the street so the Tree Department could remove the branch. (1:33pm)
  • A hit and run occurred between a gray 1997 Ford Escort and a black 2009 Saturn VUE occurred at Lowell Street and Woburn Street. (5:10pm)
  • A woman was in the parking lot of Brother Pizza on Main Street, possibly looking into vehicles and attempting to look into them. Police responded and situation checked OK. (7:21pm)
  • A Flynn Way resident wanted it logged that yesterday, at approximately 6pm, his son witnessed two men in a silver sedan approach the house and attempt to open the door handle. Son was home along at the time and does not have a better description. Men walked away when family dog started barking. (7:50pm)

Saturday, July 2:

  • A Vermont Drive caller reported small brown & white dog has been sleeping next to his house for the past week or so. Wilmington Police contacted Billerica and Tewksbury to see if they had any missing dogs matching the description.  The Billerica Animal Control Officer was able to identify the dog and contacted the missing dog’s owner. (7:50am)
  • Store owner of The Corner Store on Shawsheen Avenue reported a disruptive customer. Police Department responded and situation became calm. Police instructed store owner how to fill out a no trespass order. (7:52am)
  • A firefighter reported approximately 10 people walking on the WHS football field, which was closed to the public due to the fireworks preparations. Detail officer cleared the field. (11:23am)
  • The manager at Sonic reported a vehicle has been parked in their lot for the past few days. Police was able to contact a family member of the car’s owner, who agreed to move the car. (11:53am)
  • A tractor trailor unit struck and dragged a steel barrier into the roadway on Industrial Way. Police contacted the driver.  The barrier was moved so it was no longer a hazard. (12:11pm)
  • A black 2015 Audi SE was involved in a crash with two motorcycles in front of the Z&S Gas Station on Main Street. Driver of the Audi was cited for unsafe lane change. (1:41pm)
  • NO PROPERTY DAMAGE, PUBLIC INTOXICATION, FIGHTS, etc. at the Town Common area (or anywhere in town) before, during or after the carnival and fireworks.
