Man Arrested In Wilmington For Selling and Possessing Fireworks

WILMINGTON, MA — On Saturday, July 2, around 2 AM, Massachusetts State Trooper David Bouchard observed a gray 2016 Chrysler Town and Country minivan traveling on Route 93 South, north of Exit 40 in Wilmington, commit motor vehicle violations. Trooper Bouchard subsequently stopped the vehicle.

The operator and sole occupant was identified as RYAN TEJA, 36 of Allston. As a result of an investigation and search of the minivan,12 cases of fireworks including commercial grade firework (5” shell, Red Chrys”) and $7,510 in US currency was located. TEJA was placed under arrest and transported to the Andover State Police barracks where he was charged with the following offenses: unlawful possession of fireworks, improperly storing fireworks, unlawful selling of fireworks and a marked lanes violation. TEJA was released on personal recognizance pending his arraignment in Woburn District Court on Tuesday.

Troopers Robert McCarthy and Daniel Purtell as well as Sgt.Robert Bachelder of the State Police Hazardous Devices Unit assisted in the investigation.

It is illegal for private citizens to use, possess, or sell fireworks in Massachusetts, or to purchase them legally elsewhere and then transport then into the state. MGL Ch. 148 sec 39 prohibits any article designed to produce a visible or audible effect.
