WILMINGTON, MA — At a special meeting on Monday, June 27th, the Wilmington School Committee voted unanimously to exercise the renewal provision of Superintendent Mary DeLai’s employment agreement, extending her contract through June 30, 2018.
This extension coincides with the school district’s current Strategy for Improvement of Student Outcomes which ends at the conclusion of the 2017-18 school year. Next year, the district will be in the second year of this three-year Strategic Plan.
“We look forward to Superintendent DeLai’s continued success in implementing the district’s strategic objectives and priorities,” commented School Committee Chair Julie Broussard. “She and her leadership team have done yeoman’s work to enhance teaching and learning in our district, prepare students for college and careers, and address the needs of the whole child – academic, social, and emotional needs.”
Earlier this month, the School Committee gave DeLai a positive performance evaluation, grading her “Proficient” in all areas.
“We want to stress that we continue to be extremely impressed with Superintendent DeLai’s job performance, especially in light of the fact she spent a significant amount of time without a full complement of her leadership team,” said Broussard at the time.
Broussard went on to praise DeLai’s commitment to fiscal responsibility; her development of leadership and advisory teams; and her efforts in closing the achievement gap.
“Although there is still much work to be done, what [Mary] has achieved thus far is very commendable,” said Broussard. “We look forward to seeing the results of her hard work soon… There is no question that Mary works tirelessly on behalf of the children of Wilmington.”
