WILMINGTON, MA — At its meeting on Monday night, the Wilmington Board of Selectmen agreed upon a process to fill an open seat on the town’s Board of Appeals.
Selectmen will hold a special meeting on Monday, July 25 at 7pm to interview interested applicants. The interviews will follow these guidelines:
- Each applicant would be interviewed for no more than 15 minutes.
- Each applicant would be given up to five minutes to offer comments about themselves to explain their interest and qualifications to serve on the Board of Appeals.
- Each applicant would then field up to 10 minutes of questions from the Selectmen. The candidate’s comments and questions from the Board are expected to be specifically related to highlighting information that will assist the Selectmen in making their decision.
- Applicants who cannot appear or choose not to appear at the interviews will be allowed to submit further written comments by July 25.
After the final interview, the Selectmen will engage in deliberation and vote on an appointment.
Several Selectmen noted it was unusual to see so many residents interested in a Board of Appeals seat. Several also noted they were unfamiliar with at least half of the applicants and look forward to learning more about them through the agreed upon process.
To date, six residents have contacted Town Hall to express interest in the open seat, including Richard Hupper, Raymond Lepore, Robert Lopez, Francis Olivieri, Jacquelyn Santini and – most recently – Mark Nelson.
The applicants are vying for a seat vacated by longtime Board of Appeals member Charlie Boyle. Boyle formally submitted his letter of resignation to the Selectmen at Monday’s meeting.
