WILMINGTON, MA — Here are highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for the week of Sunday, June 12, 2016.
Sunday, June 12:
- Police responded after a woman attempted to make several purchases with fake twenty dollar bills at Cumberland Farm on Main Street. (2:56am)
- Police responded to report of two cats in a 1956 Volwkswaggen with Califonria plates in the McDonald’s parking lot. Cats did not appear to be in distress as windows were cracked. Police left note for vehicle’s owner to contact the station. (11:17am)
- Police received a 911 call from the callbox by the WHS Football Field entrance. Police responded and found the phone unattended. Police determined a child may have been playing with the phone. (2:02pm)
- Police received multiple calls regarding a loose sign on the overhead lights in front of the Wilmington Crossing plaza. Mass Highway was unable to send someone out to fix until tomorrow. (2:49pm)
- A Butters Row caller reported a red motorcycle has been racing up and down the street, last seen heading towards Chestnut Street. Police were unable to locate. (4:56pm)
- Police assisted the Fire Department with a mulch fire at Burger King on Lowell Street. (6:47pm)
- A mini bulldog — white with brown patches on his eyes — was reported lost from Nichols Street. Owner eventually located the dog. (9:19pm)
- 3 juveniles reported missing from the Milestone Group Home on High Street. Juveniles left on foot without program’s permission. (11:44pm)
Monday, June 13:
- Steven Flynn (22, Worcester) was placed into protective custody. Flynn’s red 2012 Chevy Sonic was towed from Woburn Street and he was cited for marked lanes violations and a seatbelt violation. (1:13am)
- Police received a call from Andover Police notifying them that there was an offensive banner placed on the 93 Overpass above Route 62. Police responded, but was unable to locate any banner. (5:51am)
- A Middlesex Avenue resident called to report a raccoon was on her back porch. She was unable to get the animal to leave, and did not want to leave the house as a result. Police were able to relocate the raccoon. (6:11am)
- The sign for Rizzo’s appeared to have blown over due to the wind. There is some damage to the sign. Sign is off to the side of the road on Church Street. (7:54am)
- Joseph A. Picanso (34, Wilmington) was arrested after turning himself in on a warrant for operating a vehicle after revocation and an inspection sticker violation. (8:20am)
- Police restored peace after n employee and employer of a landscaping company had a heated dispute on Salem Street. (9:36am)
- Caller reported her daughter’s Jeep Wrangler was egged overnight on Fiorenza Drive. (9:54am)
- A walk-in party reported his 2010 Toyota Camry was vandalized between 11:30am and 5:30am on Fletcher Lane. Vaseline was smeared on car and a note was left. (11:05am)
- A caller reported 3 baby raccoons were in a trail behind Town Hall. Animal Control Officer was unable to locate. (1:59pm)
- A caller reported a bobcat walked through the Ristuccia Arena’s parking lot with an animal in its mouth. (3:23pm)
- A Benson Road caller with a language barrier reported either her dog or daughter was drowning in their pool. Police responded. The dog was rescued from the pool. (4:51pm)
- Police noted graffiti on a pole at the intersection of Faulkner Avenue and Everett Avenue, which will need to be removed. DPW notified. (6:03pm)
- Brian D. Ivester (31, Pelham, NH) was arrested on a warrant. Ivester was pulled over on Andover Street and given a warning for speeding. Police was then informed of the warrant. (7:12pm)
Tuesday, June 14:
- A caller reported rocks were in the roadway on Salem Street. Police notified Mass DPW, who responded. Mass DPW notified Benevento’s, who also responded. (8:33am)
- A caller reported two plants and an urn were taken from a family plot at the Wildwood Cemetery. One was taken Memorial Day weekend. One was taken a couple of days later. Report was forwarded to detectives. (9:22am)
- Police assisted the Fire Department with a mulch fire near Market Basket. (12:43pm)
- Police received report of a woman in the Savers parking lot asking for money. Police responded, but woman was gone upon arrival. (1:52pm)
- Police issued a citation for using a mobile phone while operating a vehicle under the age of 18. (3:14pm)
- A lifeguard at Town Beach reported that people with dogs were on the beach’s property. Police responded and advised two dog owners of the rules. (5:05pm)
- A gray 2006 Hyundai Tucson and a green 2010 Ford Fusion were involved in a crash at Wonder Years on Lowell Street. No injuries reported. One vehicle was towed. (6:06pm)
- Police received report of a dog inside a black 2014 Subaru Forester panting heavily in the Exotic Nails parking lot on Lowell Street. Police spoke with the dog’s owner and advised them not to leave the pet unattended in vehicle. (6:26pm)
- A resident reported a group of teenagers were in the rear of the Metro at Wilmington apartment complex, making excessive noise. Police spoke with the parent. Kids were having a semi-formal party and party will supervise and make sure the noise to kept down. (10:02pm)
- A missing juvenile was reported from Milestone Group Home on High Street. (10:52pm)
- Police received call reporting water was pouring from the custodian’s door in the rear of the Shawsheen Elementary School. Police notified the Public Buildings Superintendent. (11:47pm)
Wednesday, June 15:
- A gray 2015 Volkswagen Jetta struck a stone wall on Castle Drive. No injuries reported. Vehicle was towed. (2:39am)
- A school bus knocked down low hanging cable wires on Aldrich Road. Police notified Verizon. (7:39am)
- Police received two calls reporting a teenager on the train tracks near Glen Road. Teenager seemed “anxious.” Police notified Amtrak to use caution in the area. Police were unable to locate the teen. (8:04am)
- Police received report of a deer struck on Salem Street. Deer was able to get up and run into the conservation area. (12:25pm)
- A caller reported she witnessed a bunny with an arrow into its side running across Kilmarnock Street. Animal Control Officer was unable to locate the animal. (1:21pm)
- A caller from Avalon Oaks reported the dog in he apartment across the hall jumped on her child and caused scratched. Police spoke with all parties. Dog owner was advised to have dog registered with the town. (2:53pm)
- Douglas Goulet (44, Dayton, Maine) was arrested on an outstanding warrant. Goulet was soliciting for a tree company, going door-to-door in the Moore St. area. (3:47pm)
- A caller reported a suspicious man entered Market Basket carrying a bicycle and wearing army fatigues and a duty belt. Man has since left the store and was riding his bike in the parking lot. Man was gone by the time police arrived. (5:58pm)
- An anonymous caller reported several kids were on scooters playing in the roadway on Middlesex Avenue. Police advised the youths to stay out of the road. (6:15pm)
- Robert McCrann (30, Salem) was arrested on a warrant. A caller – a patron at Chili’s – reported the bartender seemed incoherent According to the caller, the manager was notified and did nothing. Police arrived and arrested the bartender on an outstanding warrant. (7:57pm)
- A truck driver reported he was assaulted by employees inside an unnamed Burlington Avenue business. Employees drove away prior to police arrival. (10:28pm)
Thursday, June 16:
- A Church Street caller reported a student drives by daily with music playing extremely loudly. It’s an ongoing issue. Police checked the area and all was quiet. (7:45am)
- An Allen Park Drive caller requested extra patrols between 4pm and 6pm. Caller says cars are constantly speeding through the area. (9:44am)
- DPW took a complaint that the trash barrels from a Ledgewood Road residence was being used by neighbors without permission. (11:48am)
- Wilmington Fire Department conducted a fire drill at the Woburn Street School. (12:51pm)
- Police received a 911 call from a business in Bethlehem, PA altering them to a medical situation. Caller was advised she was calling Wilmington, MA. Caller stated their business has a phone system based out of Boston. Caller will call 911 via cell phone to reach the appropriate police department. (4:34pm)
- North Reading Police alerted Wilmington Police of a possible erratic operator on a dark colored motorcycle, driving at a high rate of speed, westbound on Route 62 in Wilmington. Wilmington was unable to locate. (7:43pm)
- A caller reported his neighbor has 3 unregistered vehicles parked in the roadway on Burnap Street. Caller believes emergency vehicles would not fit down the street. Police responded and found a motorcycle, trailer and vehicle parked in the roadway. Police spoke with owner, who stated they belong to his ex-wife who was supposed to pick them up today. Police had the trailer towed as it was a public safety hazard. (10:31pm)
Friday, June 17:
- Kenneth Donald Frechette (32, Dracut) was issued a summons for operating a motor vehicle with a suspended license (subsequent offense). Frechette was pulled over on Salem Street. (1:03am)
- An employee from FedEx on Ballardvale Street called to report his employer would not give him his paycheck. Police responded. Issue was resolved and employee received paycheck and left. (7:08am)
- A caller reported a sick looking wild cat is on Glen Road. Animal Control Office responded and was unable to locate animal. (9:32am)
- An employee from Pit Pipeline was attempted to open a man hole in the middle of the road on Industrial Way. Police advised man that they would need to hire a detail if work was going to continue. (9:43am)
- A caller reported a vehicle that was illegally parked in a handicap spot at Wilmington Middle School backed into her vehicle. Woman left a name and number with the caller, but refused to leave any other information. No injuries reported. (10:40am)
- Jose Opes (37, Woburn) was issued a summons for unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle, texting while operating a motor vehicle, and unsafe operation of a motor vehicle. Opes was pulled over on Main Street. (11:54am)
- A black 2008 Nissan Versa and a blue 2014 Toyota Rav4 were involved in a crash on Lowell Street & Woburn Street. No injuries noted. Airbags deployed. Both vehicles towed. (12:27pm)
- Animal Control Officer retrieved a deceased black cat on the sidewalk near Santander Bank on Main Street. (1:24pm)
- A Walker Street resident found a firearm in his backyard. Police responded and retrieved a black Crossman pellet gun. (3:36pm)
- A Sheldon Avenue caller reported a dead skunk was in her back yard, up against her fence. She requested it be removed. (4:23pm)
- A black 2007 Subaru Forester and a white 2009 Toyota Highlander were involved in a crash near the West School House on Shawsheen Avenue. No injuries noted. Both vehicles towed. (4:28pm)
Saturday, June 18:
- Train gates have been down on Middlesex Avenue causing traffic issues. Police notified Amtrak, which was having an issue with a train on the tracks. Police spoke with conductor who stated they needed to wait further for a supervisor. Police remained on scene to assist with traffic until issues was eventually resolved. (7:39am)
- A gray 2005 Toyota Camry and 3 motorcycles were involved in a crash near UHaul on Main Street. Main Street was shut down. State Police reconstruction team was notified. 1 motorcycle rider was transported by medflight to Tufts Medical Center. Car and at least 2 motorcycles were towed. The Camry driver — Maurice Kaplan (67,Woburn) — was issued a summons for the negligent operation of a motor vehicle for failure to keep right. (11:53am)
- A caller reported a woman in her 50’s was begging for money on Main Street. Police located the woman in front of Starbucks. Woman was getting back on the bus and leaving the area. (12:49pm)
- Police investigated suspicious behavior in the Target parking lot on Ballardvale Street. Police suspected two vehicles engaged in drug activity, but was unable to confirm. Vehicles were sent on their way. (8:42pm)
- A Camry struck and killed a dog on Carter Lane. Police altered the owner, who identified the deceased pet and took its remains. (10:19pm)
