ANDOVER, MA — McNAMARA, Walter John, Age 83, passed away at St. Francis Hospital in CT, surrounded by his family on Friday, June 17th, 2016.
He was born on August 8th,1932 in Malden, MA, son of the late Bernard and Margaret McNamara. He is survived by his beloved wife Mary Arlene, and his three children: his daughter Cheryl Haydon and husband Lee, his daughter Karen Majahad and husband Simon, and his son Scott McNamara and his wife Ana.Walter is also survived by his brother Robert McNamara. He was predeceased by his brothers Bernie, Richard, Billy, Edward and Leonard, and his sister Louise.
Walter served in the Air Force as a high ranking Sergeant and was stationed in Korea during the war. He attended Boston University where he graduated with a Business Degree and married the same year of the graduation, 1958 to Mary “Arlene” Twohig. He worked at Black & Webster for over 25 years as a treasurer of that company. He had passion for hockey and was co-captain with his brother Lenny at Malden High School where they won the State Tournament. He served on the school committee in the town of Wilmington.
He was the definition of a great family man. He loved his wife and kids and always put their needs first over many health struggles he went through his entire life, you couldn’t ask for a better father. Walter supported kids overseas and always had a strong heart to help others in need. He lived in assisted living in Farmington CT with his wife and near his daughter Cheryl. He loved all his grandchildren and was most happy when he had visits from all nine of them: Jeff, Kyle, and Greg Haydon, Jacob, Simon, and Sam Majahad, and Karoline, Zachary, and Roberto McNamara.
Funeral services will be held on Tuesday, June 28th, 2016 at 4 pm at the Chapel of West Parish Cemetery, 210 Lowell Street, Andover MA, 01810, Following the Funeral we will be getting together at the fellowship hall across the street.
