5 Candidates Emerge For Board of Appeals Vacancy

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Board of Selectmen will soon need to appoint a new Board of Appeals member to replace resigning board member Charles Boyle.

Boyle announced his intentions to retire from the Board when his 5-year term expired in April, but agreed to stay on through the completion of the Tresca Brothers’ case, which concluded last week with the Board’s decision to deny both special permits requested.

Boyle was formally reappointed in May to 5 more years, but with the Tresca case finished, he’s ready to step down after 20 years of service to the town.

Five residents have already contacted Town Hall to express interest in replacing Boyle:

  • Richard Hupper — 58 R CLark Street
  • Raymond Lepore — 68 Adams Street
  • Robert Lopez — 161 Federal Street
  • Francis Olivieri — 4 Oak Street
  • Jacquelyn Santini — 38 Glen Road

In a memo shared with Selectmen at their meeting on Monday night, Town Manager Jeff Hull noted there is no set practice that the Board has followed in filling vacancies on the Board of Appeals.  He recommends Selectmen first agree upon a practice before attempting to fill the seat.

Board of Appeals member Ed Loud, who was in the audience at Monday’s Meeting, urged Selectmen to fill the position “sooner rather than later,” preferably before the Board of Appeals’ next meeting on Wednesday, July 13.

Look for Selectmen to take the matter up at its next meeting on Monday, June 27.
