WILMINGTON POLICE LOG (Week of May 22, 2016)

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for the week of Sunday, May 22, 2016.

Sunday, May 22:

  • A juvenile was reported missing from the Milestone Group Home on High Street. (12:11pm)
  • A caller reported losing his wallet at the Shawsheen School.  Police advised caller to contact his credit card companies and bank. (1:22pm)
  • Fire Department responded to a small brush fire at Town Hall. (3:27pm)
  • Police received multiple calls reporting dirt bikes were going up and down the road on Beeching Avenue and Faulkner Avenue. Police advised parties to keep dirt bike and ATV off of the roadway. (3:41pm)
  • A caller in the Wildwood Cemetery reported a spigot was broken and spewing water. Police notified the Water Department. (6:20pm)
  • Fire Department responded to a roll over on 93 South, near Exit 41. State Police handled scene. Fire Department transported a patient to Lahey Clinic with unspecified injuries. (7:09pm)
  • Police witnessed suspicious behavior from a gray 2012 Kia Sorenta in the Salvation Army parking lot. Police advised operator not to drop off donations after hours. (9:46pm)

Monday, May 23:

  • A window at Town Hall appeared to have been broken with a rock over the weekend. The rock was found in the Town Engineer’s Office. There was also attempted damage to a window in the Recreation Department’s Office. (8:43am)
  • A caller reported she locked her keys in her vehicle on Shawsheen Avenue with three dogs inside. Police responded and was able to open the vehicle’s door. (9:56am)
  • A caller reported a Cardonna delivery truck sideswiped the building at Main Street Consignment & Thrift, causing structural damage. Caller believed truck was making deliveries to As Good As It Gets. Police responded. (9:57am)
  • Fire Department responded to a person stuck in a vehicle in a building on Ballardvale Street. (11:04am)
  • A caller reported a red 2016 Toyota Corolla backed in a car in front of her Carolyn Road home. Vehicle left before police arrived, who will attempt to track down. (12:13pm)
  • Animal Control Officer asked seven individuals to leave the Town Dog Park, which is not yet open. (1:15pm)
  • Caller reported a vacant building on West Street was broke into recently and it appeared there was a party of some sort. Caller wanted the incident logged. (2:40pm)
  • Police received report of a minor riding a scooter in and out of traffic on Shawsheen Avenue. Police were unable to locate the child. (3:20pm)
  • Police restored the peace between a man and woman fighting on Town Beach. (4:20pm)
  • A gray 2016 Subrau Forester and bicycle were involved in a crash on Ballardvale Street. Bicyclist refused medical attention and was picked up by an employee. (5:13pm)
  • A Salem Street resident reported her mailbox may have been struck by a vehicle earlier in the afternoon. (5:57pm)
  • A hit & run to a parked vehicle in the Chili’s parking lot was reported. (8:19pm)
  • Police received report of a deceased cat in the roadway on Main Street near Meineke Muffler. (9:15pm)
  • Police restored the peace between two men arguing at Ristuccia Arena. Both men were asked to leave. (9:45pm)
  • K9 Ridic underwent training at the DPW Building on Andover Street. (10:47pm)

Tuesday, May 24:

  • A Main Street caller reported the transformer on the pole in front of her house is buzzing, making a high pitched sound. Police notified RMLD. (5:36am)
  • Police notified DPW over an ottoman left in the student parking lot near the exit. (7:42am)
  • A past motor vehicle crash was reported in the high school parking lot. A gray 2000 Nissan Pathfinder struck a parked 2013 Red Dodge Journey. No injuries reported. (9:16am)
  • A walk-in party reported that, sometime over the weekend, his white 2007 GMC Yukon was vandalized. (11:42am)
  • A Woburn Street resident called to report he saw coyotes in his yard last night. (12:04pm)
  • A white truck struck a light post at Winchester Family Medical Center on Salem Street. (2:01pm)
  • A black 2015 Ford Taurus and a black 1999 Toyota Rav4 were involved in a crash at Elia’s Country Store on Middlesex Avenue. No injuries reported. (4:16pm)
  • Juveniles were reported missing from the Milestone Group Home on Main Street. (7:36pm)
  • Jose G. Marte (29, Lawerence) was arrested two warrants. Marte was pulled over at Industrial Way and Horseshoe Lane. (9:08pm)
  • A walk-in party reported her friend was making suicidal threats via text messages. She may currently be at a home in Billerica. Police notified Billerica Police to respond. (9:35pm)

Wednesday, May 25:

  • A caller complained of a loud party on Fiorenza Drive. Police responded. Homeowner said he would take the party inside for the night. (12:33am)
  • Fire Department responded to a chimney fire on Elizabeth Drive. (8:31am)
  • A Border Avenue caller reported yesterday that a suspicious woman was walking around their house, looking in windows. When confronted, the woman stated she was there to a view an apartment for rent. Police advised homeowner to call police if she returned. (10:56am)
  • K9 Ridic underwent training at the Harden Tavern on Salem Street. (11:43am)
  • A Main Street resident found one bullet in the basement. Police retrieved it for disposal. (11:52am)
  • Police received report of flowers taken from a gravesite in the Wildwood Cemetery. (12:04pm)
  • A caller reported dirt bikes were operating with excessive speed on Dorchester Street. By the time the police arrived, the bikers were gone. (3:58pm)
  • A caller reported a deceased groundhog on Lawrence Street. Police notified the Animal Control Officer. (4:19pm)
  • A walk-in party reported a duck at Rotary Park had a fish hook through its leg. The dug doesn’t seem to be in distressed, but individual wanted the Animal Control Officer notified. (5:21pm)
  • A green 1969 Chevy Camaro suffered a car fire on Jefferson Road. Fire and police responded. Prior to the Fire Department’s arrival, the owner of the vehicle was able to extinguish the flames. (5:44pm)
  • Police spoke to a juvenile using a vaping device on school property at the Shawsheen Skate Park. Juvenile chose to leave the vicinity. (6:39pm)

Thursday, May 26:

  • An employee at the Shell Gas Station on Main Street called to report a suspicious white man loitering at the station. Clerk reported the man was asking customers for money and requested the clerk allow him to buy items on a credit card and return them for a cash refund. Police checked the area and was unable to locate the man, who was reportedly driving a silver Chevy SUV. (12:44am)
  • A police removed a sick skunk from a Blackstone Street back yard and brought it to the Tewksbury Animal Hospital. The skunk passed away. (8:35am)
  • A detail officer on Main Street reported raw sewage was seeping from the location. Police notified the Board of Health, who advised residents they must hook up to sewer line. (10:03am)
  • A Lake Street caller reported a neighbor was attempting to put a granite post on her property for a fence. Caller stated ‘words were exchanged.’ Police advised caller that it was a civil matter. (12:32pm)
  • Police received report of a man walking on the train tracks. Man’s vehicle ran out of gas and he was walking to gas station. Police gave the man a ride. (1:50pm)
  • Animal Control Officer responded to a deceased snake call on Glen Road. (2:11pm)
  • A Dorchester Street caller reported a juvenile was operating a dirt bike with excessive speed, up and down the street.  Juvenile was gone by the time police arrived. (4:04pm)
  • John Farrell (28, Medford) arrested on a parol warrant. (4:11pm)
  • A caller found an iPad in the parking lot of a Dunkin Donuts on Main Street around noon. (8:06pm)
  • Police received reports of loud noises in the Bank of America parking lot. Police responded. Vehicle in the lot was the bank’s cleaners. Everything checked OK. (11:32pm)

Friday, May 27:

  • Police received a call of a large group of juveniles in the roadway on Birchwood Road, making noise and riding skateboards. Police responded. Juveniles said they were just “taking a stroll around the neighborhood.”  Police advised them to keep the noise down. (2:52am)
  • A caller reported water was coming from the ground and onto the sidewalk at Whispering Pines on Salem Street. Police notified the Water Department. (5:17am)
  • Police received a report of a baby goose hit by a vehicle near Gym Street USA on Jewel Drive. Bird was still alive and off to the site of the road. Police notified Ringmasters. (9:08am)
  • A white 1999 Ford Taurus struck a mailbox on Nichols Street. Driver was cited for impeded operation, failure to stay in marked lanes, and no inspection sticker. Vehicle was towed. No injuries reported. (1:59pm)
  • A caller reported a Xenon Corporation employee found a bullet in the grass. Caller believed it was left behind after practice from a next-door company. Police retrieved item for destruction. (3:20pm)
  • A caller reported man was stumbling around the Lucci’s parking lot and got into the back of a white van. Police responded. Man won’t be operating vehicle and was picked up by his mother.  Man will make arrangements to have van mood. (7:09pm)
  • Police received report of a black 2016 Kia Soul speeding and doing “donuts” and “burnouts” on Horseshoe Lane. (7:25pm)

Saturday, May 28:

  • Police issued a summons for Brendan Avery (24, Weymouth) was using a motor vehicle without permission.  Avery was pulled over in the black 2009 Toyota Corolla on Main Street. He also possessed a cell phone that did not belong to him. (10:51am)
  • A white 2015 Volkswagen and a gray 2009 Chevy Impala were involved in a crash at the Shawsheen School. No injuries reported. (11:15am)
  • Adonis Berzins (61, Wilmington) was arrested for an OUI Liquor (3rd Offense); possessing an open container of alcohol in a motor vehicle; and negligent operation of a motor vehicle.  Berzins was involved in a 3-car crash on Burlington Avenue. No injuries reported. (11:19am)
  • Police received complaint of two children unattended in a vehicle in the Target parking lot. Police quickly found the parents. (12:44pm)
  • A Middlesex Avenue resident reported two coyotes were getting very close to his home. The Animal Control Officer will follow up. (3:36pm)
  • An anonymous caller reported that donations were piled up inside the Epilepsy Foundation building, blocking an interior door and sprinkler head. Police referred the issue to Fire Lt. Cavanaugh, who handles fire prevention issues. (4:05pm)
  • Police issued a summons to John Martinez (Chelsea, 54) for operating a motor vehicle with a supposed license and failure to stop. Martinez was pulled over on Burlington Avenue. (7:10pm)
