WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Firefighters Local 1370 is hoping that taking a little off the top will result in raising a lot of money for St. Baldrick’s Foundation, a charity which funds research to find cures to childhood cancers.
On Saturday, June 11, from 1pm to 5pm, some of Wilmington’s firefighters – and other volunteers – will shave their heads to raise money for cancer research at Red Heat Tavern (300 Lowell Street). Click HERE to donate to their “Brave The Shave” efforts.
This event raised more than $45,000 in its first two years. The event has already raise more than $2,500 this year, with 12 individuals (and counting) having pledged to shave their heads.
Below is a message from the fundraising page of participant Mike Naimo, whose son is one of the event’s “honored children.”
I’m shaving my head to raise money for childhood cancer research! I’m honoring my son, Anthony, who went through two long years of chemotherapy treatment and then on to having a Bone Marrow Transplant. His brother, Dominic being his match and donor. Did you know that kids’ cancers are different from adult cancers? It’s true. And childhood cancer research is extremely underfunded. So I decided to do something about it by raising money for cures.
Now I need your help! Will you make a donation? Every dollar makes a difference for the thousands of infants, children, teens, and young adults fighting childhood cancers.
This will be the 3rd annual fundraiser. With the help from Wilmington Firefighters L1370, friends and family we are hoping to beat last year’s grand total of $25,000. If you help me reach my goal then we are well on our way! Thank you all in advance.
Mike
