WILMINGTON, MA — Below are recent Wilmington Little League game summaries.
Rookie League:
Braves vs Cardinals — Saturday, May 21, 2016
For the Braves, Parker Canevari made a terrific play at second to get the final out of the inning and Jacob McGahey was great defensively at third base for the Braves with a big stop and great hustle that prevented extra bases. Mickey Moroney made a great stop at shortstop to hold runner to a single. At the plate, Devin MacDonald, Nolan White, and Ethan Lydon had big hits and Theo Bryson celebrated his birthday by hitting two strong singles to advance the runners. Dillan Roberts showed aggressive base running that allowed him to score from second base in the bottom of the first. The Cardinals played a strong game defensively as well and had a number of hits throughout the game.
Astros vs. Giants — Saturday, May 21, 2016
The Astros came out strong in the first with outstanding defense from Devin Degennaro as he had back to back to back grounders where he scooped them up and threw them out at first. The offense then started out hot with 4 base hits in row from Nicolas Lentile,, Riley Caples,, Nathan Anderson,and Colin Holman which was then follow up by a bomb deep into the outfield by Jonathan Malley. Matthew Boyer and Jake Arsenault also had big hits in the game and played strong defense. Kyle Price was solid behind plate, While Aiden Harris and Keegan Perna both contributed with keys hits in the game. The Giants played well too with great hitting and fielding.
Braves vs. Astros — Monday, May 23, 2016
After recovering from an injury last week, the Braves’ Dylan Mainini drilled a nice fly ball to the outfield over the opponent’s heads. Dillan Roberts made an excellent defensive play to Nathan Murphy at first base. Murphy later made a great stop and beat the runner to 1st. Ethan Lydon made an awesome stop and also beat the runner to 1st. Devin MacDonald, Jacob McGahey, and Nolan White had great hits and Patrick Moriarity did an awesome job at his first time at catcher. The Astros played a great game as well at the plate and in the field.
Farm League:
Astros vs. A’s — Saturday, May 21, 2016
The A’s played another great game. There was lots of good pitching, hitting and defense. Aidan Largenton and Johnny Roofe had some great pitches in their first appearance on the mound and hit the ball solidly. Gavin Burke had a solid line drive to the outfield among other hits and made some great plays at First Base. Kyle Tibbetts also had multiple solid hits to go along with some good defense. The Astros continued crushing the ball as Mikey Taylor, Chris DeFilippo, and Erin McCarthy each went five-for-five. James Passerini, Justin Fricia, Kevin Pruslin, and Ryan Gray each added four hits while Quinn Stockman, Evan Cummings, Roman DiZoglio, and Dylan Alexander contributed hits as well. Taylor had an unassisted double play in the field on a line drive, Gray had a diving catch at second base, and McCarthy, Passerini, Fricia, & DiZoglio were some of the others throwing leather. Gray & Passerini each struck out two during their innings on the mound.
Majors League:
White Sox 11, Orioles 2 — Saturday, May 21, 2016
Ryan Ackerley pitched a complete game gem for the White Sox striking out 10 batters. Colin Gates, Jake Glinner, Cam Marzilli, and Joey Pastore had multiple hit games for the White Sox. Dillon Bloom, John Velozo, Luke Murphy, Dan Passerini, and Ashton Lowell pitched for the Orioles. Colin Sainato and Luke Murphy had multiple hits for the Orioles. White Sox shortstop Jake Glinner made the defensive play of the game diving to catch a line drive smash off the bat of Dillon Bloom in the 6th inning. Devin Milano played a solid centerfield for the Orioles catching several fly balls.
White Sox 10, Red Sox 6 — Monday, May 23, 2016
Aidan Elkins second home run of the season, solid relief pitching by David Clemente, and solid team defense led the White Sox to a victory over the Red Sox. Elkins three hits and Colin Gates two hits led the hitting attack for the White Sox. Jake Glinner, Ryan Ackerley, Joe McCauley, and Kevin Ackerley also had hits. Garrett Moretto and Steven O’Connor pitched for the Red Sox with Moretto leading the Red Sox bats with two hits. Ben McEwen, Brian Davey, Liam Fagan, and Alex Burns also contributed hits for the Red Sox. Ryan Ackerley played a solid shortstop for the White Sox with 6 defensive putouts.
