WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Varsity Softball Team (10-5) rolled Stoneham, 15-3, in 5 innings on Wednesday afternoon at Stoneham High.
Shannon Horgan was a double shy of hitting for the cycle — recording a single, triple, and home run with 3 RBI for the game. Marisa Butler, who went 2-for-2 with 2 RBI, scored her first varsity run, while Gianna Burnetto received her first varsity hit.
The Wildcats followed up their victory over Stoneham with a big win over Burlington, 4-0, on Friday night at Wilmington Town Park. With the win, Wilmington qualified for the state tournament.
Wilmington starting pitcher Ally Moran shined, surrendering no runs and just 3 hits, while striking out six. Wildcats Dana Goulet (3-4) and Shannon Horgan (2 RBI) led the offense, both recording triples. Second baseman Liz Gordon played exceptional defense, making a great diving play to rob a Burlington batter of what looked like a sure hit.
NEXT UP: The WHS Softball Team (10-5) hosts Lawrence on Monday, May 23 at 6pm at Town Park (Route 38).
