Dear Editor,
As a response to accusations made about me at the last Board of Selectman’s meeting, I would like to set the record straight.
I need to respond to comments made by Selectman Michael McCoy regarding the manner in which I ran our Wilmington School Committee meetings during the time that I served as Chair.
According to Selectman McCoy, “we (Board of Selectmen) are not the School Committee where you have to beg Chairperson (Peggy) Kane to get on the agenda,” adding with mild derision, “That’s what she does.”
As Chair of the Wilmington School Committee, I made a strong effort to run respectful and professional meetings, following Robert’s Rules of Order and procedures dictated by the Massachusetts Association of School Committees. The Superintendent and I determined the agenda. In my nine years as Chair, Mr. McCoy never attended a meeting, nor did he request an agenda item. In addition, he never contacted me regarding a complaint from someone else.
I am disappointed that Mr. McCoy has chosen to conduct the town’s business by attacking other public officials in an unwarranted and disrespectful manner, especially when the individual is not present.
The people deserve better than this shabby behavior from its public officials.
Margaret (Peggy) Kane
