WILMINGTON, MA — Here are FIVE things that happened at the Wilmington School Committee Meeting last week.
#1) The School Committee unanimously accepted a donation of $57,730 worth of technology equipment from Comcast. The equipment will be used to expand the school district’s phone system, as well provide new tools to teachers and students. The donation was organized by Comcast employee Adam Volpe, a Wilmington High School alum.
#2) The School Committee unanimously approved establishing a revolving account for the purpose of collecting and distributing funds related to the district’s one-to-one Chromebook program, which begins next school year for all 9th graders. The move allows the district to collect donations from businesses to help subsidize the cost of Chromebooks for families who cannot afford them. The district has already received a $1,000 donation from Reading Cooperative Bank, with additional financial commitments pledged by the Wilmington School Business Partnership.
#3) The School Committee unanimously approved changes to four district policies (and one procedure) involving gender identity, student travel, field trips and financial accounting. Wilmington Apple previously covered the proposed changes HERE.
#4) Aside from a known issue of needing to document “the agreed upon methodologies to be used when allocating municipal expenditures to the school district,” the school department received a clean audit for Fiscal Year 2015 from certified public accounting firm Rosseli, Clark & Associates.
#5) The School Committee discussed the state-mandated annual Superintendent Evaluation process. Each member, minus newcomer Thomas Tolbert, will submit their individual evaluations by May 27. All evaluations, which follow a strict, agreed-upon format, will be placed in the Superintendent’s personnel file. After compiling all the evaluations, the Committee will then make a public presentation at its June 8th meeting.
