WILDCAT WAKEUP: WHS Baseball Loses To Melrose In Battle For 2nd Place

WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Varsity Baseball Team (8-5) fell to Melrose, 9 to 4, on Wednesday afternoon in Melrose.

Wilmington ace Jackson Gillis had a rare short outing, giving up 7 hits and 8 runs (5 earned) in 3.1 innings.  Gillis, who struck out 6 and walked 4, did manage to hit a 2-run homer, his third of the season.

The Wildcats spread the offense around on 7 hits.  In addition to Gillis’s homerun, Danny Gracia went 2-for-3 with a double, while Matt Spurr (double), Graham Smith (RBI single), Brian Cavanaugh, and Conor Zaya also all recorded hits.  Chris Grecco contributed with an RBI sac fly.

NEXT UP: The WHS Baseball Team (8-5) takes on Wakefield on Thursday at 3:45pm at Wakefield High.
