WILMINGTON, MA — Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, May 7, 2016.
Girls Kinders:
Chicago Red Stars vs. Houston Dash
The Houston Dash was also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Sophia Kulsa, Chloe Stryhalaleck, and Julia Marra leading to goals by Madison Scanlon and Sara Keck. The defense showcased their skills today with Elizabeth Gray and Lila Rosa keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game.
Western NY Flash vs. Orlando Pride
The Orlando Pride’s Kaia Donn, Gianna Oconnell and Julia Zaya stayed on their toes creating many scoring opportunities. The play of Sarah Najarian and Taylor Najarian shut down the other end of the field on defense that set the tone for this game.
Boys Kinders:
Seattle Sounders vs. NE Red Bulls
The Seattle Sounders showed some impressive skills on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Jay Doherty and Ryan Mulik leading to goals by Dylan Costantiello, Cameron Banda, William Da Cunha, and Michael Duffy. The Seattle defense showcased their skills today with Bijon Pourshadi keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game.
Chicago Fire vs. Portland Timbers
One could only believe the silence of the crowd was due to the fantastic ball skill of Caden Merritt, Braeden Vanisky and Damiano DiCenso. However it did not take long for the crowd to cheer as goals were scored by Mark Cataldo and Lucas Pereira. The Chicago Fire’s defensive stand made by Nathen DiSchino and Austin O’Connell could only be viewed as heroic.
Boys Grade 1:
NE Revs vs. Chicago Fire
An exciting matchup between titans as the NE Revolution took on the Chicago Fire. Back and forth scoring kept the crowd on their feet as Fernando Gunera, Nathan Anderson and Ethan Lydon pressured the Fire defense time and time again. The strong hold and iron like defense of Cameron Molina and Kyle Price ensured a fantastic finish in this epic showdown.
Seattle Sounders vs. Red Bulls
Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. The Seattle Sounder’s Cole Falk, Cael Considine, Richard Holland, and Collin Holman scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Riley Caples also set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Nolan White and Dylan Mainini provided great protection for the Seattle Sounder’s defense.
The New York Red Bulls’ Zachary Atwater and Nicholas Melaragni stayed on their toes creating many scoring opportunities. The play of Jackson Griffith and Preston Hunt shut down the other end of the field on defense that set the tone for this game.
Girls Grade 1:
Chicago Red Stars vs. Western NY Flash
The Flash’s defensive stand, lead by Kalea Lamb and Celina Vo, not only struck fear in the Red Stars, but will be feared by future opponents as well. It was this team defense that lead to counter attacks by Amy Keohane, Gabby Carriglio, Angelina Vo and Katelyn Perkins, ultimately leading to goals by Emma Tarin and Ruby Poulo.
FC Kansas City vs. Boston Breakers
The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated match between F.C Kansas City and Boston Breakers commenced. Fantastic ball skills were displayed by Boston Breaker resulting in goals by Abigail Engvaldsen, Emma Nolan, Megan Smith, Leah Hanafin and Heidi Ferrer. The midfield and defensive play of Leah, Heidi, Abbi, Megan and Emma kept the F.C. Kansas City in excellent shape.
The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated match between FC Kansas City and the Boston Breakers commenced. Fantastic ball skill were displayed by Danielle Chillemi, Hailey Reguera and Caroline Donovan resulting in goals by Shannon Hounsell. The midfield and defensive play of Bella St. Onge, Madison O’Donoghue and Mackenzie Libitz kept FC Kansas City in excellent shape.
Girls Grade 2:
Seattle Reign vs. Washington Spirit
The Washington Spirit were also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Maddie Gryglik and Lily McLaughlin leading to goals by Cate MacDonald, Samantha Crowley, Maeve White, and Sabrina Fitzgerald. The defense showcased their skills today with Maeve Doherty, Jessica Lefave, and Kristal Wells keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game; while the goal keeping of Ava Thibert made this game close.
FC Kansas City vs. Boston Breakers
In what could have been confused as a World Cup Match, the F.C. Kansas City started off strong with great offensive pressure from Mackenzie Scanlon and Kaitlyn Shackelford. Coupled with the steel-like defense of Maria McCarthy and Katherine Hughes, their efforts made for an incredible game. Alison McElligott, Alexis LeBlanc, Cayley Israelson, and Katherine Hughes all scored for F.C. Kansas City, while the Hope Solo like effort of Samantha Bolanos and Cayley Israelson provided solid goal-keeping to keep their team alive.
The Boston Breaker’s Lilly Abbott, Skylar Nguyen and Isabella Zaya stayed on their toes creating many scoring opportunities. The play of Emma Chirichiello, Cara Digiovanni and Nicole Gallucci shut down the other end of the field on defense that set the tone for this game. Timely saves by Srilasya Mallajosyula and Casey Kelley helped strengthen a solid team effort.
Boys Grade 2:
NE Revolution vs. LA Galaxy
The crowd was kept on the edge of their seats this week as the New England Revolution, led by the offensive skills of Joseph Glaser resulted in scoring plays by Isaac Tavares and Will Poyant.The defense was not to be left out of this one either as Ryan Belanger kept the ball out of their zone for much of the game. Nick Spinosa and JR Haggerty both made great saves in goalie to keep the Revolution in the game. Cameron Pereira showed great skill and adaptability in an unusual experience as he battled for both the winning and losing team.
