WILDCAT WAKEUP: WHS Baseball Falls To Burlington In Extra Innings

WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Varsity Baseball Team (7-4) snapped its five game winning streak on Saturday, falling to Burlington, 4 to 3, in 8 innings, on the road.

After falling behind 3-0, Wilmington scored two runs in the 4th inning thanks to a 2 RBI single from  Justin Leger, scoring Chris Grecco and Joe Kelley.

Wilmington scored again in the 7th inning, tying the game.  Justin Leger lead off the inning by reaching on a hit by pitch.  Leger was advanced to third courtesy of a well executed sacrifice bunt from Graham Smith.  Leger would then score on a Matt Spurr RBI single.

Closer Graham Smith was almost able to get out of a loaded bases jam in the 8th inning, but gave up a game-winning, 2-out hit to left field that was nearly caught.

Brian Cavanuagh led the offense by going 2-for-3 with a double.  Robbie Ducharme and Jackson Gillis also recorded hits.

Wilmington starting pitcher Danny Gracia went 7 strong innings, settling down after giving up 3 runs in the first 3 innings.
