WILMINGTON, MA — State Representative Jim Miceli (D-Wilmington) will be running unopposed for his 21st term.
Wilmington Town Clerk Sharon George and Tewksbury Town Clerk Denise Graffeo both confirmed that no candidate, besides Miceli, submitted nomination papers to seek the office prior to Tuesday’s 5pm deadline.
Miceli, who has held the seat since 1977, announced his intentions to seek re-election as early as last year’s Wilmington Democratic Town Committee’s Annual Breakfast.
He represents the 19th Middlesex District, which includes much of Wilmington (Precincts 1, 2, 4, 5 and 6) and Tewksbury (Precincts 1, 1A, 2, 2A, 4, 4A).
Miceli currently serves on the powerful House Committee on Ways & Means, as well as on the Joint Committees for Ways & Means, Elder Affairs, Election Laws, and Public Service.
Miceli remains very active at the State House. For example, his sponsored legislation to establish a First Responder Day in Massachusetts was recently signed into law by Governor Baker. Miceli also recently helped secure $770,000 in state road repair funds for the town.
Miceli and his staff continue to excel in constituent services, including holding monthly Office Hours at the Wilmington Senior Center and Wilmington Town Hall. Miceli also remains a constant presence at events in the Wilmington community.
This year’s State Primary will be held on Thursday, September 8. The State Election will be held on Tuesday, November 8.
