Wilmington Little League’s Latest Game Summaries

WILMINGTON, MA — Below are recent Wilmington Little League game summaries.

Braves vs. Cardinals (Baseball — Farm League) — Saturday, April 30, 2016

The Braves had a great team effort on Saturday vs the Cardinals.  The offense had a consistent attack, with great hustle to beat out the throws to first.  With multiple hits throughout the lineup, the hits of the day goes to Matt Driscoll for a leadoff double and Chase Heffernan’s line drive up the middle, upending Coach Keith.

Defensively, the Braves made great plays all day long.  Nolan Richards played a solid first base, making a great play to end a Cardinal rally.  Alex D’Angelo and Charlotte Forcina each made an unassisted out in the fifth inning, at shortstop and third base respectively.

The A’s came out swinging with hits all through the lineup, including a solid hit by Vinnie Vindice in his first at bat with the team as well as a line drive single by Kyle Tibbetts.  Jackson Guy and Leo Esposito both contributed solid outings in their pitching debuts.

White Sox vs. Tigers (Baseball — Majors) — Saturday, April 30, 2016

On a crisp spring morning at Rotary Park, the White Sox outlasted the Tigers in a back and forth battle that took 8 innings to determine a winner. The White Sox hitting attack was led by Ryan Ackerley and Patrick Xavier with 3 hits apiece and both scoring big runs in the 8th inning. Joe McCauley had 2 hits and Aaron Dancewicz and Colin Gates added timely hits as well. The Tigers’ bats were led by Jacob Roque and Nate Packer with 3 hits apiece and Nolan Vigeant adding 2 key hits.  In this see saw battle the White Sox struck out 19 batters in the extra inning affair with Dillon McGrath, Ryan Ackerley, and Jake Glinner all contributing while only walking 4 batters over 8 innings.  The Tigers’ pitching trio of Liam Dwyer, Shane Costello, and Nolan Vigeant countered with 12 strikeouts. Nate Packer played a spectacular center field for the Tigers tracking down several fly balls for outs including a key catch and throw to home plate beating the runner for a double play in the 6th inning that would have plated the winning run at the time.

Kansas vs. Tennessee (U10 Softball) — Friday, April 29, 2016

The Tennessee Volunteers started the season off with lights out pitching by Lexi Engvaldsen. Playing a great game behind the plate as well as on the mound was Alex Lavigne, earning herself the game ball. The volunteers bats were on fire with great at bats by Kelci and Lily Mackenzie, Haley Bridge, Paige Fuller, and Tracy Raimo. The great play in the field by Cassie Tibbetts, Amelia Perna, Eva Opedisano, and Kayla Mason kept the volunteers in the game until the end.

Georgia vs. Alabama (U10 Softball) — Wednesday, April 27, 2016

The Georgia Bulldogs opened their season against the Alabama Crimson Tide in what was a thrilling game between the two teams. It had everything the crowd could want in great pitching, offense and a down to the wire finish. On the mound, stellar pitching efforts came in from Alabama’s Lauryn Hurley, as well as Georgia’s Jaelyn Walsh and Molly Walsh.

All of the pitchers in this contest gave it their best shot at taming the offense on both sides, which wasn’t an easy task. Georgia’s Haley Cournoyer and Abby Driscoll lead their squad with timely hits, while Alabama’s Ava DeProfio, Maggie Zimmer and Leia Lavino contributed solid hitting performances as well. All in all, it was a great game played by both teams with a nail-biting ending.
