WILDCAT WAKEUP: WHS Baseball Wins 4th Straight, Gillis Pitches Gem & Homers

WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Varsity Baseball Team (6-3) won its fourth consecutive game on Wednesday afternoon, defeating Arlington High (2-8) at Scanlon Field, 2 to 1.

Wilmington starter Jackson Gillis pitched a rain-shortened complete game. Over 5 innings, Jackson struck out 12, walked 1 and gave up 3 hits and 1 unearned run.

The Wildcats scored its first run in the second inning. Chris Grecco led off with a double, and later scored on a double from Matt Woods.  Wilmington would leave the bases loaded.

The Wildcats would score its second – and winning – run in the third inning when Jackson Gillis launched a 400 ft. home run to center field.

Wilmington snuffed out a late threat from Arlington in the fifth, when the would-be tying run was thrown out at the plate by third baseman Connor Zaya.

The game was called off in the top of the sixth as the rain picked up and the field became unplayable.

NEXT UP: The WHS Baseball Team (6-3) takes on Burlington on Thursday, May 5 at 3:45pm at Francis Wyman School in Burlington in a game that was rained out earlier in the week.
