WILMINGTON, MA — Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Sunday, May 1, 2016.
Girls Kinders:
Boston Breakers vs. Orlando Pride
On the other side of the ball for the Orlando Pride was an incredible offensive performance by Kaia Donn while goals scored by Caroline Broussard, Gianna Oconnell and Julia Zaya got the Orlando Pride on the board. With a rock solid defensive stand led by Taylor Najarian, the Orlando Pride was never out of this game.
Seattle Reign vs. Houston Dash
Proving they were also World Cup Competitors Sara Keck scored for the Houston Dash in this hard fought game. Julia Marra, Sophia Kulsa, Elizabeth Gray, and Madison Scanlon added the offensive punch and Chloe Stryhalaleck and Lila Rosa held up the defense.
Boys Kinders:
Seattle Sounders vs. Portland Timbers
The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game. The Seattle Sounders F.C. led by Cameron Banda, Dylan Costantiello, Jay Doherty got the crowd jumping out of their seats. William Da Cunha, and Michael Duffy led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Bijon Pourshadi and Ryan Mulik kept the action going.
Chicago Fire vs. Columbus Crew
In what could have been confused as a World Cup Match, the Chicago Fire started off strong with great offensive pressure from Mark Cataldo and Caden Merritt. Coupled with the steel-like defense of Lucas Pereira and Nathan DiSchino, their efforts made for an incredible game. The Columbus crew scored first but the Fire were able to battle back and put forth a tremendous shorthanded performance.
Girls Grade 1:
Western NY Flash vs. FC Kansas City
The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated match-up between the Western NY Flash and FC Kansas City commenced. Fantastic ball skills were we displayed by Angelina Vo, resulting in goals by Celina Vo and Emma Tarin. The midfield and defensive play of Amy Keohane and Katelyn Perkins kept the Flash in excellent shape.
Boston Breakers vs. Seattle Reign
The crowd was kept on the edge of their seats this week as the Boston Breakers took on the Seattle Reign, led by the offensive skills of Isabel Carriere resulted in scoring by Megan Smith, Heidi Ferrer, Emma Nolan and Abigail Engvaldsen. The defense was not to be left out of this one either as Ellie Gouthro and Leah Hannafin kept the ball out of their zone for much of the game.
Boys Grade 1:
NE Revolution vs. LA Galaxy
An exciting game on this rainy Sunday as the New England Revolution came from behind to pull an incredible victory led by the a solid plays of Ethan Lydon, James Savoie and Fernando Gunera. Cameron Molina, Kyle Price and Nathan Anderson pressured the Galaxy defense to ensure a strong finish and leaving the home crowd wanting more from this explosive team
DC United vs. Seattle Sounders
Top-notch play kept people watching this one. Excellent offensive plays by Cole Falk, Cael Considine, and Richard Holland applied heavy pressure causing D.C. United to back pedal. Defensive positioning by Collin Holman and Nolan White fended off any threat that came thru making it tough for D.C. United.
Columbus Crew vs. Chicago Fire
Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. The Columbus Crew’s Jonathan Malley scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Dillan Roberts and Theo Bryson kept the pressure on the opponent. Excellent defense was played by Jack Cronin and Thomas Murphy.
Girls Grade 2:
Western NY Flash vs. FC Kansas City
The F.C. Kansas City would not back down from this back and forth match. Goals by Alison McElligott and Alexis LeBlanc brought the crowd to a frenzy. A spectacular display of defensive skills was shown by Ava Cirone, Katherine Hughes, and Kaitlyn Shackelford. In addition, the midfield play of Maria McCarthy, and Mackenzie Scanlon kept constant pressure on the opponent’s net.
Boston Breakers vs. Seattle Reign
The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated match between Boston Breakers and Seattle Reign commenced. Fantastic ball skills were displayed by Lilly Abbott resulting in goals by Skylar Nguyen and Lindsay Broussard. The midfield and defensive play of Emma Chirichiello and Macy Savage kept the Breakers in excellent shape. The crowd roared to their feet when Isabella Zaya and Cara Digiovanni made some spectacular saves.
Boys Grade 2:
NE Revolution vs. Seattle Sounders
In what could have been confused as a World Cup Match, the New England Revolution started off strong with great offensive pressure from Will Poyant, Nick Spinosa, Ryan Belanger & Gavin Dong. Coupled with the steel-like defense of Cameron Pereira & Ethan Briggs, their efforts made for an incredible game. Timmy Watson & Isaac Tavares scored for the Revolution, while the Hope Solo like effort of Joseph Glaser and J.R. Haggerty provided solid goal-keeping to keep their team alive. The Revs hope to get back Owen Fitzpatrick from his ankle injury next week.
