WILMINGTON, MA — Below are recent Wilmington Little League game summaries.
Thursday, April 28, 2016 — Astros vs. Athletics (AAA)
In front of an enthusiastic crowd, the Astros had a great game with John McNamara, Owen Cushing, Mikey Oatis, Charlie Rosa, Charlie Maiella, Dennis McConologue and Colin Alexander, among many, contributing hits. Tyler Nguyen, Andrew Castelli and Sean Murdock played outstanding defense and John McNamara, Patrick Leblanc and Owen Cushing performed well on the mound.
The A’s provided a great challenge as Michael Maselli, Zachary Blonigan, Michael Monteforte, Patrick Hounsel and Jake Witalisz lead the offense.
Entering the bottom of the sixth, in a tie game, Mikey Oatis started the Astros off with a base hit. Colin Alexander then followed up with a base hit scoring Oatis as the Astros won on a walk off.
Saturday, April 30, 2016 — Astros vs. Athletics (Farm League)
For the Astros, Chris DeFilippo was one of several first-time catchers who did an outstanding job behind the plate. Isaac Tavares and Justin Fricia each struck out two batters during excellent pitching performances. Justin also made a great play for the third out of his inning. Erin McCarthy started a double play and was one of several strong fielders along with Roman DiZoglio, Mikey Taylor, and Connor Sullivan among others. Two of Taylor’s hits were shots into the outfield and Quinn Stockman ripped a screaming single in the third. Evan Cummings, Kevin Pruslin, Ryan Gray, Dylan Alexander, and James Passerini were just some of the other players adding hits. For the A’s, Timmy Watson and Jacoby Tibbetts each had a great inning at pitcher. Several players contributed hits for the A’s, including Nolan Gouthro and Johnny Roofe.
