WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Animal Control Officer Christopher Sullivan, with assistance from Wilmington Department of Public Works staff, rescued a dozen ducklings that fell into a storm drain on Saturday afternoon.
The ducklings fell into the drain in front of 42 Industrial Way. Bystanders stopped and notified police after seeing the ducklings’ mother “going crazy.” The mother then wondered off.
Sullivan and the DPW responded. After the DPW workers took the storm crate off, Sullivan jumped into the drain and safely handed each duckling to the DPW workers.
Sullivan almost brought the ducklings to a shelter, but – after more than an hour away – the ducklings’ mother returned. Both mother and ducklings were thrilled to be reunited.
