WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Varsity Baseball Team (5-3) won its third straight game on Friday afternoon, defeating Stoneham High (0-8) at Scanlon Field, 3 to 1.
Wilmington starter Matt Woods pitched a complete game, surrendering just 3 hits and 1 earned run. Woods threw just 74 pitches in a performance his coach described as “a gem.”
Wilmington got on the board when Justin Kannally plated Connor Zaya with a single. Justin Leger later scored on a sacrifice fly from Brian Cavanaugh. Pinch hitter Chris Grecco knocked home Matt Spurr for the final run of the game.
The Wildcats recorded a 5-4-3 double play to end the game.
