SELECTMEN NEWS: Save The Dates! ‘National Night Out,’ ‘Town Shredding Day’ Approved

WILMINGTON, MA — At its meeting on Monday night, the Wilmington Board of Selectmen unanimously approved two requests to hold popular community events on town property.

Selectmen granted the request of Wilmington Police Chief Michael Begonis to use Rotary Park on Tuesday, August 2 for  a ‘National Night Out‘ celebration.  (While a time was not specified, last year’s celebration began at 6pm.)

“The event this year will include the touch-a-truck exhibit, K9 demonstration, dunk tank, and kids movie, while providing crime prevention information,” said Town Manager Jeff Hull.  “It’s a good night out for families and assents the importance of being mindful of what’s going on in our neighborhoods.”

Selectmen also granted the request of Wilmington Memorial Library Director Tina Stewart to use the Swain School parking lot for a Town Shredding Day on Saturday, September 24, 9am-noon.

Hull noted a couple of changes are being made to this year’s event.  The event will be held at the Swain School parking lot, not the lower parking lot behind the library like in previous years.  The event will now feature will mutliple shredding trucks present, not just one.
