WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Varsity Baseball Team (4-3) won its second game in-a-row on Wednesday afternoon, soundly defeating Watertown High (4-3) at home.
The Wildcats scored a season-high 12 runs on 12 hits. Jackson Gillis, the game’s starting pitcher, helped his own cause, hitting the first home run at the new Scanlon Field. Gillis, Joe Kelley, Matt Woods, and Connor Zaya each recorded two hits for Wilmington, while Justin Leger, Matt Spurr, Brian Cavanaugh and Chris Grecco each had one. Pitching phenom Jackson Gillis picked up his second win of the season, striking out 11 while allowing only 1 hit in 5 and 1/3 innings. Gillis did struggle a bit with his command, walking five, which contributed to four earned runs. Chris Grecco came on in relief to pitch a scoreless 1 and 2/3 innings, striking out two.
