SCHOOL COMMITTEE NEWS: Big Issues To Be Discussed At Tonight’s Meeting

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington School Committee meets this Wednesday, April 27 at 7pm in the Large Instruction Room at Wilmington High School.

There are some newsworthy items on the agenda, including:

  • The School Committee will vote on its Chair, Vice Chair and Secretary for the 2016-2017 term, plus discuss subcommittee assignments.
  • The School Committee will formally make June 17, 2016 the final day of school.
  • The School Committee will discuss SIX new proposed policies/procedures in the following areas:
    • Nondiscrimination (Policy AC)
    • Discrimination & Harassment (Procedure AC-R)
    • Student Policies Goals (Policy JA-E)
    • Student Travel (Policy JJH)
    • Field Trips (Policy JOA)
    • Financial Reporting (Policy DI)
  • The District’s Safety Committee will highlight their recent accomplishments.
  • Teachers from the West Intermediate will make a presentation on Collaborative and Proactive Solutions (CPS) Pilot Program.
  • The School Committee will accept a $1,000 donation from Reading Cooperative Bank to provide subsidies to families who need financial assistance to purchase Chromebooks.

In addition:

  • Superintendent Mary DeLai will present her bi-weekly report to the Committee.
  • School Committee Student Representative Dina Singh is scheduled to give her monthly report to the Committee.

The meeting will be telecast live by Wilmington Community Television on WCTV-E — Channel 99 on Comcast and Channel 39 on Verizon.  The meeting will also streamed on WCTV’s website HERE.
