Wilmington Youth Soccer’s Latest In-Town Game Summaries (April 23)

WILMINGTON, MA — Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, April 23, 2016.

Girls Kinders:

Orlando Pride vs. Washington Spirit
The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields this week despite the rainy conditions for this back and forth game. The Orlando Pride led by Caroline Broussard, Kaia Donn and Julia Zaya got the crowd jumping out of their seats as they led the scoring charge and put forth a great defensive effort.

Houston Dash vs. Thorns
Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. The Houston Dash’s Lila Rosa and Sara Keck scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Madison Scanlon and Chloe Stryhalaleck set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Julia Marra and Sophia Kulsa provided great protection. Meanwhile, Elizabeth Gray cheered on her teammates while recovering from an injury.

Boys Kinders:

Chicago Fire vs. NE Revolution
The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game. The Chicago Fire, led by Damiano DiCenso & Caden Merritt got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Lucas Pereira, Mark Cataldo& Nathan DiSchino led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Austin O’Connell & Braeden Vanisky kept the action going. The all-around effort by all players was fun to watch in only their second match playing together.

Boys Grade 1:

New York Red Bulls vs. LA Galaxy
The air was full of excitement, as the much-anticipated match between New York Red Bulls and L.A. Galaxy commenced. Fantastic ball skills were displayed by Nicholas Melaragni and Rafael Hernandez Osorno resulting in goals by Preston Hunt and Chase O’Brien. The midfield and defensive play of Zachary Atwater, Rafael Hernandez Osorno and Preston Hunt kept the New York Red Bulls in excellent shape. The crowd roared to their feet when Nicholas Melaragni, Zachary Atwater and Chase O’Brien made some spectacular saves.

NE Revolution vs. Seattle Sounders
What a fabulous day it turned out to be as the NE Revolution took on the Seattle Sounders. From the opening whistle, non stop action up and down the field, as Seattle pressured the tough Revolution defense led by Nate Anderson and Kyle Price. The flanks manned by the tough duo of Ethan Lydon and James Savoie created opportunities for the front team of Cameron Molina and Fernando Gunera. The crowed cheer till the last second in this high scoring match.

Columbus Crew vs. Houston Dynamo
In what could have been confused as a World Cup Match, the Columbus Crew had multiple goals scored by Jack Cronin, Jonathan Malley and Dillan Roberts. This was coupled with steel like defense from Theo Bryson. The Crew’s efforts made for an incredible game that left the crowd cheering for more.

Chicago Fire vs. DC United
The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game. The HOMETEAM led by Joseph Mytych got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Gavin Porier led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Jake Driscoll kept the action going

Girls Grade 1:

Boston Breakers vs. Western NY Flash
The rain was coming down like cats and dogs but nobody stayed home for this action packed game against the Boston Breakers and the Western NY Flash. The Breakers Heidi Ferrer, Megan Smith, Abigail Engvaldsen and Emma Nolan scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Isabel Carriere set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Ellie Gouthro and Leah Hannafin provided great protection for our Goal.

Top-notch play keep fans watching this one. Excellent offensive plays by the Flash’s Ruby Poulo and Gabby Carriglio applied heavy pressure which kept the Boston Breakers on their heels. Midfield positioning by Amy Keohane, Angelina Vo and Kalea Lamb fended off any threat that came thru making it tough on the Breakers. Defensive positioning by Emma Tarin and Celina Vo, cleared balls out of the Flash’s zone and kept the game with the Breakers tight.

Girls Grade 2:

Chicago Red Stars vs. Boston Breakers
The Boston Breakers would not back down from this back and forth match. Goals by Nicole Gallucci brought the crowd to a frenzy. A spectacular display of defensive skills was shown by Macy Savage, Srilasya Mallajosyula and Lindsay Broussard. In addition the midfield play of Emma Chirichiello, Skylar Nguyen, Cara Digiovanni and Isabella Zaya kept constant pressure on the opponents net. Timely saves by Lilly Abbott and Casey Kelley helped strengthen a solid team effort.

Western NY Flash vs. Washington Spirit
The Washington Spirit was also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Jessica Lefave and Maeve White leading to goals by Cate MacDonald. The defense showcased their skills today with Maddie Gryglik and Ava Thibert keeping the ball out of their zone for much of the game; while the goal keeping team of Lily McLaughlin and Kristal Wells made this game close.

Boys Grade 2:

NE Revolution vs. Chicago Fire
Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. The New England Revolution’s Joseph Glaser, JR Haggerty and Isaac Tavares scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Nick Spinosa, Ethan Briggs & Will Poyant set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Ryan Belanger and Timmy Watson provided great protection for the Goal Keepers. While both Owen Fitzpatrick and Cameron Pereira are sidelined with ankle injuries, the Revolution played well together displaying great passing and executed the game plan. All players thanked the Chicago Fire for a well fought match on the Shawsheen pitch.
