WILMINGTON, MA — This week’s Aleppo Shriners Circus at the Shriners Auditorium has attracted dozens of protesters from the Circus Protest movement.
“Bears, elephants, tigers, and other animals do not volunteer to leave their homelands and families in order to balance on balls, jump through rings of fire, and perform other menial tricks,” reads their Facebook page. “They perform these acts and obey orders out of fear of pain, suffering, and other sadistic forms of retribution. Yet many people who attend the circus are under the illusion that the animals are happy and well cared for. Peaceful protests are a critical instrument in raising awareness of the plight of these animals and working towards a day when no animal finds itself tortured for entertainment.”

If you are so uneducated to believe a few protestors over professional animal people, you shouldn’t be allowed to write an article!! How many protestors were there? You do understand they are paid by PETA and HSUS to protest? Those 2 organizations have had more animal perish at their hands than you can begin to count
I’m not “for” or “against” the circus. In fact, I promoted this circus when it was announced, when tickets went on sale, and EVERY day it was open. (https://wilmingtonapple.com/?s=Shriners+Circus)
These 20+ protestors posted a photo. I shared it, with a little bit of context from their Facebook page, which I linked to. I did it because it was NEWS. You can disagree with what they’re saying, but the fact that they’re saying it is news. I’m sorry, but in Wilmington, we don’t get a lot of protests about anything.
Their words aren’t my words. You don’t know what I “believe.”
The post was simply a photo and a paragraph explaining the photo. This wasn’t meant to be some sort of in-depth exposee on the treatment of animals at circuses.
