WILMINGTON, MA — Below are Wilmington Youth Soccer in-town game summaries from Saturday, April 16, 2016.
Boys Kinders:
Red Bulls In Action
Nobody stayed home for this action packed game. The New York Red Bulls Ryan MacPherson and Brendan Cohen scored, getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Joey Constantino, James Del Torco and Tony Ianzi set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Declan Mulcahy and Evan Walsh provided great protection for the Red Bulls’ goal.
Girls Kinders:
Seattle Reign vs. Dash
Top-Notch play kept people watching this one. Excellent offensive plays by Julia Marra, Sophia Kulsa and Sara Keck applied heavy pressure causing the Seattle Reign to back pedal. Defensive positioning by Chloe Stryhalaleck, Madison Scanlon and Lila Rosa fended off any threat that came thru making it tough for the Reign.
Houston Dash vs. Orlando Pride
The Orlando Pride would not back down from this back and forth match. Goals by Caroline Broussard and Julia Zaya brought the crowd to a frenzy. A spectacular display of defensive skills was shown by Taylor Najarian and Kaia Donn. In addition the midfield play of Mary Hunter and Sarah Najarian kept constant pressure on the opponents net.
Boys Grade 1:
NY Red Bulls vs. Columbus Crew
The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game. The New York Red Bulls led by Chase O’Brien got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Preston Hunt led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Zachary Atwater kept the action going.
NE Revolution vs. DC United
What a fantastic atmosphere for the Revolution/DC United match-up. The Revs started off the season with spectacular goals from Nathan Anderson, Fernando Gunera and Kyle Price. The strong iron defense led by Cameron Molina, Ethan Lydon and James Savoie ensure that the Revolution home crowd was treated to an amazing victory.
Sounders vs. Fire
The crowd was kept on the edge of their seats this week as the Seattle Sounders F.C, led by the offensive skills of Cael Considine and Riley Caples, resulted in scoring opportunities by Richard Holland and Collin Holman. The defense was not to be left out of this one either, as Cole Falk, Dylan Mainini, and Nolan White kept the ball out of their zone for much of the game.
Girls Grade 1:
Portland Thorns vs. Boston Breakerseawa
The crowds gathered at the Shawsheen fields for this back and forth game between the Boston Breakers and the Portland Thorns. The Boston Breakers led by Emma Nolan and Heidi Ferrer got the crowd jumping out of their seats. Megan Smith and Abigail Engvaldsen led the scoring charge, while the great defensive effort of Isabel Carriere and Leah Hanafin kept the action going.
Kansas City vs. Chicago Red Stars
One could only believe the silence of the crowd was due to the fantastic ball skills of Isabella St. Onge, Danielle Chillemi and Madison O’Donoghue. However it did not take long for the crowd to cheer as goals were scored by Shannon Hounsell and Mackenzie Libitz. FC Kansas City’s defensive stand made by Hailey Reguera and Caroline Donovan could only be viewed as heroic.
Seattle Reign vs. Western NY Flash
The Western NY Flash were also impressive on the offensive side of the ball with great skill being displayed by Ruby Poulo leading to goals by Gabby Carriglio. The defense showcased their skills with Kalea Lamb, Emma Tarin and Amy Keohane keeping the ball out of their zone for most of the game; while the mid-field play of Katelyn Perkins made this game close.
Boys Grade 2:
Columbus Crew vs. NE Revolution
Proving they were also World Cup Competitors, Luke Cushing and David Dynan scored for the Columbus Crew in this hard fought game. Adam Brueggeman, Dennis Desouza, Callan Stone and Liam Finn added the offensive punch and Vijay Cudia, Colin Dwyer, David Norton and Aidan Largenton held up the defense. It was an outstanding team effort capped off with great goal keeping by Camden Gray and Colin Allard.
Girls Grade 2:
Boston Breakers vs. Western NY Flash
As the opening weekend of soccer kicked off nobody stayed home for this action packed game. The Boston Breakers Lindsay Broussard scored getting the crowd jumping out of their seats. Outstanding offense by Nicole Gallucci, Lilly Abbott and Cara Digiovanni set up many scoring chances. The flawless defense of Casey Kelley, Emma Chirichiello and Srilasya Mallajosyula provided great protection for the Goal Keepers. The crowd roared to their feet when Isabella Zaya and Macy Savage made some spectacular saves.
Kansas City vs. Washington Spirit
Proving they were also World Cup Competitors, Cate MacDonald and Kristal Wells scored for the Washington Spirit in this hard fought game. Maddie Gryglik and Maeve White added the offensive punch while Jessica Lefave, Lily McLaughlin, Ava Thibert held up the defense. It was an outstanding team effort capped off with great goal keeping by Sabrina Fitzgerald.
