LETTER TO THE EDITOR: Jim Stewart Endorses Bendel For Selectman

Dear Editor,

I am writing in support of Greg Bendel for Wilmington Selectman. I have known Greg since he was a student at Shawsheen Tech. I have watched him develop from a young man on the Shawsheen Tech basketball team to a fine leader of our community. His qualifications for this position are extensive. A graduate of both Shawsheen Tech and UMASS Lowell, Greg has also served as Chairman of the Wilmington Housing Authority. He worked on the Wilmington 4.0 Campaign Committee advocating and planning for a new high school. In addition to working as a teacher, Greg also coaches high school basketball for Shawsheen Tech. These are just a few of Greg’s many qualifications. We are fortunate to have several people running for Selectman this year in Wilmington. All the candidates will post their unique qualifications and resumes. But there is something that sets Greg apart and that is why he has my support. A lifelong resident of Wilmington, Greg has made a commitment to our community. He and his wife, Andrea Dipasquale Bendel (also a lifelong resident) own a home in town and have chosen Wilmington as the place to raise their family in the future. He has a vested interest in continuing to make Wilmington a great place to live for families and all residents. Greg is a proud member of the Wilmington Knights of Columbus. He has been an active volunteer with the Local Heroes organization. Wilmington youth have benefited from the many community basketball camps Greg has been involved in running as well.

Holding office is an important responsibility. But that should not be your sole commitment to the community. Knowing and understanding the issues that are important to the residents is the most important role as a Selectman. Greg has shown this ability by truly being part of the fiber that makes Wilmington, Wilmington. Greg’s experience, background, commitment to Wilmington, involvement in activities and groups in town and his genuine concern for the future of Wilmington make him extremely, and uniquely qualified to be a member of the Wilmington Board of Selectmen. I hope you will join me in voting for Greg Bendel on April 23rd.
