WILDCAT WAKEUP: WHS Baseball Wins Season Opener With No-Hitter

WILMINGTON, MA — The WHS Baseball Team opened its season on Thursday with an impressive road win over Woburn, 3-0.

Wilmington pitchers combined for a no-hitter.  Jackson Gillis (5 IP, 8 K, 2 BB) earned his first win of the season with a dominant performance. Matt Spurr and Graham Smith each pitched an inning in relief, with Smith picking up his first save of the season.

Brian Cavanaugh got the scoring going for the Wildcats in the first inning, with a RBI triple that plated Graham Smith.  Cavanaugh would then score on an infield single from Joe Kelley.

Wilmington picked up their third run in the 7th inning.  Pinch-hitter Nick Poli smacked a two-out single up the middle. Pinch-runner Justin Leger would go on to score on a wild pitch.

NEXT UP: The WHS Baseball Team (1-0) take on Lexington on Friday, April 15 at 3:45pm at Lexington High.
