OBITUARY: JoAnn (D’Alelio) Cann

WILMINGTON, MA — JoAnn (D’Alelio) Cann, age 74, of Port Orange, FL, formerly of Wilmington, died peacefully on April 5, 2016.

JoAnn was born November 13, 1941, in Idaho; she was the dear daughter of the late Michael and Thora D’Alelio. JoAnn lived in Idaho for a few years before her family moved to Massachusetts and settled in East Boston. As a teenager, JoAnn moved to Wilmington where she was raised and educated; living the majority of her life before retiring to Port Orange, Florida 18 years ago.

JoAnn was very dedicated to her family and her love for them unconditional. She cherished her role as “Grand Mama”; her grandchildren were such a bright spot in her life and she was so proud of each and every one of them.

JoAnn was also known to be an amazing cook and everyone looked forward to going to her house for dinners and holidays. JoAnn was also an avid gardener who had quite a green thumb and a fashionista who took much pride in her appearance as well as her children’s.

American Indian Heritage was always a source of pride for JoAnn. She also had a fascination for fairy’s that was shared with her family and friends and she enjoyed showering her grandchildren with fairy dust to heal everything.

JoAnn will be fondly remembered as a wonderful wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister, aunt, and a true friend to many; she will be greatly missed by all who knew and loved her.

JoAnn was the beloved wife of Richard Cann, devoted mother of Michael Micalizzi & wife Dawne, Mark Micalizzi & companion Janice Lapham, Michelle Hooper & husband George, and Richard Cann & fiancé Cheryl Randall all of Wilmington, Rick Cann & wife Norma and Ron Cann & wife Anne all of Billerica. Loving “Grand Mama” of Michael, Ashley, George, Julianne, Sheree, James, Kaitlyn, Carley, Erin, Sean, Alisha, Marissa, and great-grandsons Dylan and Jacob. Cherished daughter of the late Michael and Thora D’Alelio, dear sister of Jenny-Lee Miller of Maine, Michael D’Alelio & wife Bernie of Alaska, the late Jimmy, Glen, Reynold, Norma, and Virginia. JoAnn is also survived by her former husband Anthony Micalizzi as well as many nieces and nephews.

Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home,187 Middlesex Ave. (Rte. 62), Wilmington on Saturday, May 7th for Visitation from 11:00 a.m. – 12:00 noon immediately followed by a Funeral Service at 12:00 noon. In lieu of flowers donations in JoAnn’s memory may be made to House of Hope, 812 Merrimack St., Lowell, MA 01854 or the Northeast Animal Shelter, 347 Highland Ave., Salem, MA 01970.
