NOW HIRING: Wilmington High School Seeking New Assistant Principal

WILMINGTON, MA — The search to replace retiring WHS Assistant Principal Dennis Mahoney has begun.  Mahoney is leaving the district after six years to become the Principal at Winchester High School.

Wilmington Public Schools began advertising for a new High School Assistant Principal on Thursday.  The posting can be found HERE.  Key highlights of the posting are below:

TITLE: High School Assistant Principal

STARTING DATE: August 1, 2016

SUMMARY:

The assistant principal is an integral part of the administrative team at Wilmington High School.

The assistant principal’s duties will be in the areas of School Management (organizing and running a school), Staff and Personnel (supervision and evaluating staff in carrying out the school program), Curriculum and Instruction (activities related to the course of study, improvement of instruction, staff supervision and evaluation, in-service activities and the revision of curricula), Community Relations (as reflected in our mission statement), Student Activities (non-classroom activities of the students), student scheduling and technology integration.

The successful candidate:

  • Assists Principal in developing and implementing goals for the high school.
  • Serves as a support to the Principal in the overall administration of the high school.
  • Oversees the implementation of effective discipline and attendance practices for students.
  • Implements and manages the Instructional Support Team (IST) on at least a monthly basis with all support staff in the building.
  • Assists the Principal with the handling of all safety and security measures within the high school and all high school extra-curricular events.
  • Participates in the interview process for staff selection in the high school.
  • Assists the Principal to design and implement practices to maintain safe, healthful facilities.
  • Assists the Principal in the development and implementation of school policies.
  • Oversees the entire process of scheduling students and teachers for all programs.
  • Is responsible for the coordination of grade reporting, record-keeping which includes the reporting of eligibility status, GPA’s, class rank.
  • Completes all State and Federal reports as required.
  • Assumes full administrative responsibilities for the operation and maintenance of the school in the absence of the principal.
  • Attends/manages school extra-curricular activities as directed by Principal.
  • Supervises and evaluates curriculum team leaders, teachers, and support staff according to performance standards.
  • Manages and teaches staff and faculty new and up-to-date technologies as necessary.
  • Works with curriculum team leaders and staff to develop budgets that relate to goals, curriculum and instruction, and assessment of student learning.
  • Serves as the Team Leader for those departments without a Curriculum Team Leader.

Job Requirements

DEGREE:

  • Certified or certifiable as a Secondary School Principal in Massachusetts.
  • Minimum of a Master’s Degree with graduate work in Educational Administration, Curriculum Development, Supervision, and/or Evaluation.

EXPERIENCE:

  • Can demonstrate a minimum of three (3) years successful experience as an administrator at the high school level or district level.
  • Can demonstrate a minimum of five (5) years successful experience as a teacher at the middle or high school level.
  • At least 5 years of relevant experience preferred
  • Master degree preferred
  • Citizenship, residency or work VISA in United States required
