WILMINGTON GIVES: Woburn St. School Looking For Residents To Read Favorite Poems

WILMINGTON, MA — Do you have a poem that is special to you? Maybe it makes you laugh or cry, reminds you of a special memory, or is written about a subject that you love. Please share your favorite poem with us!

Poet laureate Robert Pinsky founded the Favorite Poem Project in 1997. He wanted more people, young and old, to appreciate poetry. He also wanted teachers to teach more poetry in school. Sharing poetry is a way for us to learn about each other and what makes each one of us special.

The 14th Annual Favorite Poem Project at the Woburn Street School happens Thursday, April 28th at 9:15 a.m. and 1:15 p.m. in our school cafeteria. Participants are asked to select a favorite poem to be read aloud on the day of the project. Before reading, participants will share a few sentences about why they chose that poem.

The only rule for the Favorite Poem Project is that poems recited are NOT poems the readers or their friends or relatives have written, but ones they have read, perhaps many times, and to which they feel a personal connection.

Please submit your application by filling out this form by Thursday, April 14th. You will be notified if you have been selected to read on Monday, April 18th.

(NOTE: The above announcement is taken directly from the Favorite Poem Project’s sign-up form.)
