BURLINGTON, MA — State Rep. Ken Gordon, who represents Precinct 3 in Wilmington as well as all of Burlington and Bedford, has organized a forum to address the issue of available senior housing at the Burlington Council on Aging (61 Center Street) on Thursday, May 12, from 11am to 12:15pm.
The forum will be headed by Chrystal Kornugay, the governor’s Undersecretary of Housing and Community Development. It will include two House Chairs, Rep. Kevin Honan who heads the Joint Committee on Housing, and Rep. Denise Garlick, who leads the Joint Committee on Elder Affairs. Also on joining the panel will be Mike Runyan, the Chair of Burlington’s Board of Selectmen, as well as Attorney Bob Buckley of Riemer & Braunstein. Runyan has devoted much of his work to the issue of senior housing. Attorney Buckley will be prepared to address the opportunities and responsibilities of private developers when it comes to these issues.
“Many of our seniors are facing the situation where they no longer wish to maintain the larger houses where they lived for much of their lives,” said Gordon. “They are looking for a smaller home, a condo or an apartment . They worry that these smaller places are not available in town and they will have to look elsewhere.
“This forum is not only an opportunity for seniors to learn what the state may be able to do to help, but also for our residents to tell our state and local leaders of their concerns and ask questions.”
The forum is open to all, especially seniors from Burlington, Bedford and Wilmington.
