BURLINGTON, MA — Chief Michael R. Kent reports that the Burlington Police Department is in the final stages of identifying the man who approached a child near a bus stop in his vehicle.
On Wednesday, March 16, at approximately 3:05 p.m., a 6-year-old boy told his mother that he was approached by a man in an “older green car” near the intersection of Gedick and Gibson roads. The man allegedly asked the boy’s name and where he lived. The child ran home and told his mother, who called Burlington Police.
Burlington Police asked residents, parents and citizens in neighboring communities to be on the lookout for an older model green Cadillac car driven by a white male, likely in his mid-60s.
On Friday, March 18, the Woburn Police Department contacted Burlington Police to report that a vehicle matching the description released had been located at Applebee’s, 2 Elm St.
Through an investigation, Burlington Police were able to locate the owner, a Burlington resident, who also matched the description of the man seen in the green car. Detectives then interviewed the man at his home about his whereabouts on Wednesday. They determined there was no criminal intent and no charges will be filed.
The matter remains under investigation, but police believe they have identified the person involved.
“There does not appear to be any criminal intent by this man,” Chief Kent said. “We believe he had no intention of harming the boy he approached, and that at no time was there a threat to public safety.”
