WOBURN, MA — Boy Scouts from Wilmington, Billerica, Chelmsford, and Westford attended a Safety Merit Badge workshop on Thursday, March 10, hosted by the Middlesex County District Attorney Marian T. Ryan, in conjunction with the North Reading Police Department, Armstrong Ambulance Service, the Massachusetts Environmental Police, and the Department of Conservation and Recreation.
The workshop, held at the DA’s Woburn offices, was offered free to registered Boy Scouts and covered topics such as: common types and causes of injuries in the home and in the workplace, and how to prevent them; common kinds of crimes and ways to avoid being a crime victim; common fire hazards and ways to avoid them; how a serious fire, accident, or crime could change your family life; safe practices and safety devices; home inspections, fire escape plans; devices that prevent injuries or help in an emergency; tips for online safety precautions against identity theft; how to recognize child abuse; what the National Terrorism Advisory System is and how you would respond to each type of alert; and career opportunities in the field of safety.
The session ended with a brief question and answer period. This was a unique opportunity for local Scouts to meet the District Attorney of the Commonwealth’s most-populous county and to earn an important merit badge.
