UNITY, ME – Shirley Marie (Thiverge) Parsons, 90, of Unity, ME passed away peacefully on March 5, 2016 after a short illness.
She was born on February 1, 1926 in Worcester, Mass to Louis and Lillian (McCabe) Thiverge.
Shirley attended Commerce High School in Worcester, Mass and in 1945 was accepted in the three-year Cadet Nursing Program in Gardner, Mass at Henry Howard Memorial Hospital where she earned her R.N. Degree. She was employed as a private duty nurse in Boston area hospitals and also did home nursing. Shirley met her husband, Raymond, during WWII and they married in 1949 and lived in Massachusetts until moving to Unity, Maine in 1965.
Shirley and Ray had a wonderful life together. They built their two family homes, one in Wilmington, Mass and the other in Unity, Maine. They enjoyed dancing, entertaining their family and friends, and camping trips when their children were young. She kept in touch with many of her friends from childhood and school and enjoyed her letters and calls from each of them. Shirley appreciated all of her many dear friends, both old and new, and they lifted her spirits after the passing of her husband.
She is predeceased by her loving and devoted husband Raymond; her parents; and her three sisters, Mildred, Irene, and Marjorie.
Shirley is survived by her sons, Steven and his wife Cathy, and Gary; her daughter Jane; her grandchildren, Steven Jr., Frederick, Aimie, and Ryan; great-grandchildren, Nickolas, Gavin, Colby, and Lily. She also leaves behind her sister Dorothy.
At her request there will be a private graveside service at the family lot in Unity at a later date.
