WILMINGTON, MA — Wilmington Community Television (WCTV) is proud to offer an internship program to high school students in Wilmington. Applicants should be interested in the field of communications, whether that be on the production side (e.g. photography, editing, graphic design) or on-air talent (e.g. show hosting, sports play-by-play). WCTV will provide complete training and guidance on any tasks that are assigned. This is a HANDS-ON internship. Students will be expected to do their own work and provide their own transportation to the events they are covering.
Because WCTV is a non-profit public access TV station, this internship is viewed as community service. Interns will be expected to complete community-level projects assigned by the Executive Director as well as come up with their own ideas for community programming. Examples:
- Interviews with school staff or students on a specific topic
- Profiles of sports teams or clubs
Event coverage at a local organization (e.g. Wilmington Memorial Library) - Local sporting events
- Provide assistance for studio programs (including camera operator or floor director)
Internships will run for about 4.5 months, concurrent with the 1st and 2nd semesters of Wilmington High School. (Note that the Spring 2016 internship will obviously be abbreviated due to the program only launching in March.) There will also be a summer internship program, running late-June through late August. Students should expect to put in an average of 2-4 hours per week, although that time is flexible as long as projects are being completed.
