Wilmington Resident — A Cambridge Cop — Cited In Hit & Run

CAMBRIDGE, MA — Earlier this week, the Cambridge Police Department announced that Ryan Callinan, a 28 year-old Cambridge Police Officer from Wilmington, has been cited with Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury and Operating to Endanger.

The citations follow a preliminary, joint investigation of a hit-and-run incident with a bicyclist on Sunday, February 21 at 7:49pm at the intersection of Broadway and Portland Street.

Callinan was off-duty at the time and driving his own personal vehicle.

The bicyclist sustained non-life-threatening injuries and was transported to a local hospital for treatment. The victim has since been released.

An arraignment date has not yet been scheduled. In the interim, Callinan will continue to remain on administrative leave from the Cambridge Police Department, where he has served as a patrol officer since 2011.

“The Cambridge Police Department takes all allegations of misconduct seriously,” stated Commissioner Robert C. Haas. “We will continue to work closely with our partners at the District Attorney’s Office and State Police to ensure that a comprehensive, fair and balanced investigation is conducted into this matter.”

The investigation has been and will continue to be conducted by the Cambridge Police, Middlesex District Attorney’s Office and Massachusetts State Police.
