BREAKING: A Fifth Candidate Enters Selectmen’s Race

WILMINGTON, MA — While contested races for the Wilmington School Committee, Shawsheen Tech School Committee, and Wilmington Housing Authority look unlikely with just 2 weeks until the town election’s nomination papers filing deadline, the race for the Wilmington Board of Selectmen continues to heat up.

Martin Meyer, of Main Street, pulled nomination papers on Thursday morning, according to Assistant Town Clerk Linda Golden.  Meyer joins an already crowded field of Selectmen candidates, which include Greg Bendel, Kevin Caira, Joseph Lavino, and Thomas Miller.

The five men are vying to replace longtime popular Selectmen Lou Cimaglia and Mike Newhouse, who both recently announced they will not be seeking re-election.

Meyer, a political newcomer, has been frequently spotted in the audience at Selectmen and Yentile Farm Development Committee meetings over the past 6+ months.

Meyer will have until March 3 to return his nomination papers, with at least 50 valid signatures from Wilmington voters, to the Town Clerk’s Office to get on the April 23rd ballot.  Lavino and Miller have already turned their papers in, while Bendel and Caira are widely expected to do so shortly.
