Town Election Update: 2 Weeks Until Deadline — 8 Candidates Have Stepped Forward

WILMINGTON, MA — The Town Election season got off to a hot start with 8 candidates pulling nomination papers in January.  Thus far in February, however, no new candidates have emerged.  There are only 15 days until the March 3rd deadline.

Selectman incumbents Mike Newhouse and Lou Cimaglia have both announced they will not be seeking re-election, spurring Gregory Bendel, Kevin Caira, Joseph Lavino and Thomas Miller to pull nomination papers.

School Committee incumbent Kathleen Carroll has not pulled nomination papers as of yet, but has not publicly ruled out another run, while her colleagues Peggy Kane and Julie Broussard are seeking another term.  Newcomber Thomas Talbot hopes to join the Committee.

It appears longtime Shawsheen Tech School Committee member Robert Peterson Sr. may be on his way to another unopposed race.

No one, to date, has expressed interest in the open Housing Authority seat.  Bendel, who currently serves in the seat, is not seeking reelection, opting to run for a seat on the Board of Selectmen.
