PHOTO OF THE DAY: Reading Cooperative Bank Teaches Wilmington Girl Scouts Banking Basics

WILMINGTON, MA – Nancy Brown, Manager of Reading Cooperative Bank’s Wilmington Branch, spent time with Girl Scout Troop #62002, teaching them some key banking concepts. The girls learned how to write a check and complete a check register, the difference between a credit card and a debit card, and the basics on stocks. The girls earned their “Financing Your Dreams” badge upon completing the program.

“The banking basics that I teach the Girl Scouts now, are great lessons that they can use for the rest of their lives. Knowing these banking fundamentals will help them to be financially savvy in the future and make better decisions with their money,” says Nancy Brown, Wilmington Branch Manager.

Teaching Children to Save (TCTS) is a national program that organizes bank volunteers, like Brown, to help young people develop savings habits early in life. The program was founded in 1997, and since that time over 145,000 volunteers have taught over 6 million students the importance of saving.
