POLICE LOG for February 1: Bomb Squad Called In Over Grenade; Car Fire; Bicyclist Struck

WILMINGTON, MA  — Here are TEN highlights from the Wilmington Police Log for Monday, February 1, 2016:

  • A white 2004 Chevy Blazer appeared to have struck a fence at the Harnden Tavern on Salem Street.  Police came across the vehicle with no one in it.  Vehicle had no plates. North Reading Police attempted to notify the owner.  Vehicle was towed. (7:13am)
  • A blue 2011 Nissan Rogue and a gray 2003 Jeep Liberty were involved in a crash on Salem Street.  No injuries reported. (7:51am)
  • Police investigated a threatening phone call received a Wilmington High. (8:27am)
  • Wilmington Fire Department responded to a brown 2003 Chevy Avalanche on fire on 93 South Exit 40 ramp.  Vehicle was fully engulfed.  State Police handled scene. (10:11am)
  • A walk-in party brought a grenade and old ammunition to dispose of from his uncle’s residence in Everett.  Fire Department and State Police Bomb Squad were notified. The grenade was placed in a safe location in the rear of the parking lot.  Bomb Squad responded and will dispose of grenade. (11:56am)
  • A box of wood was blocking the 93 South ramp at Route 62.  Police notified DPW, who retrieved the box. (11:59am)
  • K9 Ridic was out with the Woburn Police to assist with narcotics search of a vehicle in Woburn. (1:52pm)
  • A gray 2010 Ford Van struck a bicyclist near Ristuccia Arena on Main Street.  No injuries reported. Driver was cited for stop sign violation. (5:27pm)
  • Police responded to reports of a man walking down Route 93 South.  Police drove the man to the Wilmington Center train station and advised him not to walk on the highway. (6:09pm)
  • Police responded to suspicious behavior at Town Park (April Field) on Main Street. One female responded to having smoked synthetic marijuana. (7:08pm)
