HOT OFF THE PRESS: Wilmington Recreation Announces ‘Maple & More’ Day Trip

WILMINGTON, MA — The Wilmington Recreation Department just released information on its “Maple and More” day trip on Thursday, March 31, from 10am to 5pm.

The trip is described as followed:

“Your maple adventure will begin today with a maple-themed luncheon at the Salem Cross Inn. This restored 18th century farmhouse is nestled on 600 acres in West Brookfield, Massachusetts. The Salem family is proud to say that everything is prepared fresh each day while incorporating heirloom vegetables and herbs grown in their own gardens. Staying with our theme, today’s lunch features…maple!

After lunch we head to Warren Farm for a hands-on Sugarhouse Tour. The ninety-minute tour takes you on a guided and narrated walk through the history of maple-sugaring. Learn the early history of sugaring and the different systems used today. Aspects of science, meteorology, global warming and math will be woven into the presentation. At the sugarhouse learn how sap is boiled into syrup, and sample fresh sap and pure maple syrup. Top off the visit with maple cheesecake and hot maple spiced cider. Everyone will take home a 100 ml jug of maple syrup and maple sugar candy! There will be time to visit the Maple Store before you head home.  Wear appropriate clothing and shoes for an outdoor walk and tour.”

The trip costs $72 per person, with a $25 deposit due at registration.  Final payment is due by March 2.  Trip includes: Motorcoach Transportation; Luncheon; Sugarhouse Tour & Treats; Trip Leader; & All Taxes, Tips and Gratitude, except driver.

The bus departs from and returns to the Town Common Parking Lot (142 Middlesex Avenue).
