WILMINGTON, MA — Maureen R. Chisholm (McEnaney), age 71, a long-time resident of Wilmington, passed away on February 3, 2016, at the Sawtelle Hospice House after an 8-month battle with brain cancer.
Maureen was born in Lowell, MA on December 23, 1944; she was the daughter of the late Roland and Estelle McEnaney. Maureen grew up in North Chelmsford, MA and graduated from Chelmsford High School in 1962.
Maureen was married to Lester Chisholm in 1966 and recently celebrated her 49th wedding anniversary with her beloved husband on September 24, 2015.
Maureen worked at Hanscomb Air Force Base as a secretary until the birth of her first son in 1968. In later years she worked at Sunny Acres Nursing Home.
Always one to put the needs of others before her own, Maureen was an active volunteer; she volunteered for the Boy Scouts, the Open Pantry of Lowell and Tewksbury State Hospital. Maureen was also an active member of St. Dorothy’s Parish where she attended services and volunteered for frequent church-related events.
Maureen loved spending time with her grandchildren, family, and friends. She particularly enjoyed cooking and entertaining, soon becoming the family’s holiday host.
Knitting, quilting, painting, gardening, and baking were some of her other favorite hobbies.
Maureen also enjoyed going to the beach and summer vacationing as a child in York Beach, Maine. More recently, Maureen enjoyed her vacations on Cape Breton Island, Nova Scotia at the family home.
Maureen was the beloved wife of Lester W. Chisholm, devoted mother of Steven Chisholm & his wife Joy, Ken Chisholm & his wife Jill, Scott Chisholm & his wife Robin all of Wilmington and Katie Elias & her husband Adam of Melrose, loving “Grammy” of Jonathan, Sarah, Brett, Matt, A.J. and Cameron Chisholm, cherished daughter of the late Roland and Estelle (Miron) McEnaney, dear sister of Barbara Houlihan of Northhampton, Raymond McEnaney & his wife Terry of Tyngsboro, James McEnaney & his wife Laramie of Ohio, Robert McEnaney & his wife Susan of Chelmsford and Paul McEnaney & his wife Lily of Bernardston. Maureen is also survived by many loving nieces and nephews.
Family and friends will gather at the Nichols Funeral Home, 187 Middlesex Ave., (Rte. 62), Wilmington, on Saturday, February 6th at 10:00 a.m. followed by a Mass of Christian Burial in St. Dorothy’s Church, Main St., (Rte. 38), Wilmington, at 11:00 a.m. Interment to follow in Wildwood Cemetery, Wilmington. Visiting hours will be held at the Funeral Home on Friday, February 5th from 4:00 – 7:00 p.m. In lieu of flowers donations in Maureen’s memory may be made to the Open Pantry of Greater Lowell, 200 Central St., Lowell, MA 01852.
