It’s Official: Town To Open Dog Park This Summer

WILMINGTON, MA — The Town of Wilmington plans on opening a dog park this summer.

The one-half-acre, fenced-in dog park will be constructed at Town Park on Route 38 (775 Main Street). The dog park will be located in the area to the south of the Town Park’s parking lot.

The dog park will cost approximately $35,000 to create.  Funding will come not from taxes, but from the Recreation Department’s Revolving Fund.

The Wilmington Recreation Commission has been charged with developing rules for the dog park.  The Commission is currently researching rules for dog parks in other communities.

The public’s strong support for the creation of a dog park became clear during the Yentile Farm Development Committee’s community outreach efforts.  While Yentile Farm was not deemed a favorable spot for a dog park, town officials worked diligently to identify an alternative location.

The announcement came during Town Manager Jeff Hull’s FY17 budget presentation at Monday night’s Board of Selectmen’s Meeting.
