Secretary of State’s Important Message To Voters

BOSTON, MA — Last month, the Election Division of the Massachusetts Secretary of State’s Office mailed out postcards to all members of the United Independent Party (UIP), a minor Massachusetts political party.  Galvin’s postcard was an attempt to proactively avoid voter confusion as some United Independent Party members may consider themselves “Independent” voters, when – in fact – they are members of a party.

To not belong to any political party, a Massachusetts voter must be registered as “Unenrolled,” NOT “United Independent.”

For the March 1st Presidential Primary, the United Independent Party’s ballot does not have a candidate for President.  If a United Independent Party member wishes to vote for a presidential candidate of a particular party on March 1, they must change their vote enrollment to “Unenrolled” or to the Democratic, Republican or Green-Rainbow parties.

To change voter enrollment, visit http://www.RegisterToVoteMA.com.  Enrollment changes must be made no later than February 10, 2016.
